BIGMOUTH INC.
Creative Product Developer
Full-Time · Remote · Consumer Products
ABOUT THE ROLE
BigMouth makes products that earn their place on the shelf — and keep earning it.
The best products do more than look fun. They tell a story immediately, fit the retail channel, hit the right price, and show up on time exactly as intended. This role owns that full process: from concept through production, approvals, and retail execution.
The goal is simple. Make sure the idea holds up all the way through.
We work closely with factories, sample review cycles move fast, and being in the market matters. If you're remote, you need to be able to operate as if you're not.
WHO THIS ROLE IS BUILT FOR
This role is for someone who thinks in complete products — from the initial idea through what actually sells at retail.
You have strong instincts. You know what's worth making and why. You understand what it means for a product to tell a story at shelf, and you use that understanding early, not as a last-minute check.
Constraints are part of the job. Price point, licensing guidelines, materials, and factory limitations all shape the outcome. The right person works within those constraints instead of fighting them — and finds the creative opportunity inside them.
You have a point of view. A slightly irreverent, playful edge. In novelty and gift, safe usually gets ignored. At the same time, you know the difference between funny, clever, and something that actually moves at retail.
Speed matters, but accuracy matters just as much. Delivering on time and on spec isn't separate from the job — it is the job.
You own your work. You communicate clearly across teams. You solve problems early. You keep things moving without waiting for direction.
One more thing: we move fast and run lean. If you need a lot of structure handed to you, this probably isn't the right fit. If you build structure wherever it's missing, it might be exactly right.
WHAT YOU'LL OWN
Product Concept and Story
– Develop concepts grounded in real consumer moments — backyard, pool, holiday, gifting, and impulse
– Define why the product should exist and how it earns space at retail
– Translate ideas into sketches, mockups, and presentation-ready concepts that communicate the story before a word is read
Retail and Market Alignment
– Evaluate concepts against the intended retail channel from day one — mass, specialty, and D2C each demand something different
– Understand what works at shelf versus what only works in a rendering
– Bring market awareness into the process at the start, not as a gate at the end
Cost-Driven Design
– Design to target retail price points — primarily the $10–$30 impulse and gift tier — from the first sketch
– Understand landed cost, tooling, materials, and margin structure
– Make decisions around complexity, finishes, and construction with cost in mind, not after the fact
Licensing and Approvals
– Develop products within licensor guidelines and brand standards
– Own the submission process from concept through production samples
– Manage feedback cycles and approvals — keep them moving
– Ensure products meet compliance and branding requirements without becoming a timeline liability
Product Development and Factory Execution
– Create clear, factory-ready tech packs
– Communicate directly with overseas factories — clearly, specifically, and without hand-holding
– Manage prototypes, sampling, and production samples
– Ensure what is approved is what gets produced
Product Communication and Cross-Functional Alignment
– Act as the central point of contact for product-related communication across internal teams
– Coordinate across Product, Packaging, Sales, Marketing, and Operations
– Ensure all teams are working from accurate, current information — eliminate version confusion before it starts
Packaging Integration
– Bring packaging into product development from the beginning, not as an afterthought
– Align packaging with cost targets, retail requirements, and product structure
– Work with internal teams to finalize production-ready solutions on time
Operational Ownership
– Own timelines from concept through production
– Identify risks early — surface them, don't absorb them
– Stay aligned with Operations on production, logistics, and delivery
EXPERIENCE THAT FITS
– Consumer products in gift, novelty, outdoor, seasonal, toy, or toy-adjacent categories
– Licensed product development — you know how approvals actually work, not just in theory
– Familiarity with mass retail — Walmart, Target, or comparable — and what those channels demand
– Direct factory communication — you've written the briefs, managed the samples, caught the errors
– Familiarity with impulse and gift price tiers ($10–$30 retail) and the margin discipline that requires
– Experience working in fast-paced or lean teams where ownership isn't assigned, it's assumed
– Active use of AI tools to accelerate concepting, mockup iteration, or workflow efficiency — not as a checkbox, but as part of how you work
- At least 5+ years of experience.
CORE SKILLS
– Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop at a production level
– Full Adobe Creative Suite
– Microsoft Office 365
– Tech pack creation — detailed, factory-ready product renders
– BOM and costing development
– Understanding of materials and manufacturing processes
– Familiarity with NPD timelines and tracking tools
– Hands-on mockup and prototyping experience
– AI-assisted concepting tools (Midjourney, Adobe Firefly, or equivalent) — the ability to move fast on visual ideas before committing resources
– 3D rendering software a plus
Salary Range/Benefits:
The technical skills matter. But the judgment to know what's worth making — and the ownership to see it all the way through — is what this role actually requires.
