Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Works with Cherokee Nation service departments, Cherokee Nation administration and local, regional and national media to protect, promote and preserve the positive image of the Cherokee Nation and its citizens.
  • Responds to social media inquiries, contributes to message development and collaborates on proactive social media strategy development and analytics.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from a 4-year college or university in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, Advertising, or related field; no substitutions.
  • At least three (3) years of experience in a related field.
  • An individual should know Database software, Design software, Internet software, Spreadsheet software, and Word Processing software.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting.

Preferred

  • Proficient and up to date with current social media skills and tactics, smartphone photo and video editing skills preferred.
  • Strong writing and public speaking skills and knowledge of crisis communication procedures.
  • Knowledge of AP Style is a must.
  • Adobe Photoshop skills preferred.
  • Skills in Public Relations distribution software (such as Meltwater, Vocus, etc. preferred.
  • Working knowledge of newsroom environment preferred.
