Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Assist in implementing communications strategies to engage NACo members, policymakers, and stakeholders.
  • Help create a coordinated communications plan aligned with NACo priorities and member engagement goals.
  • Draft messaging, speeches, talking points and content for NACo leadership and programs.
  • Contribute to content creation for campaigns, NACo.org, newsletters, emails and social channels.
  • Support development of relationships with key media outlets covering county and intergovernmental issues.
  • Assist in drafting and distributing press releases and media advisories.
  • Help prepare NACo leaders and members for interviews, press events and public appearances.
  • Monitor media coverage of NACo and county governments to identify opportunities.
  • Collaborate with Membership and other teams to design member-facing communications across digital, print and email.
  • Assist in promoting NACo events and resources effectively to members and partners.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing or a related field
  • 3-5 years of experience in communications, media relations or digital communications in an agency, media, association or public policy setting
  • Strong writing, editing and storytelling skills; ability to adapt messages for different audiences
  • Basic understanding of digital platforms and trends, with a willingness to learn about content optimization
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines and work collaboratively across teams
  • Commitment to creativity, excellence and accountability

Preferred

  • Familiarity with AP Style and experience with content management or email marketing systems is advantageous
  • Experience with drafting press releases and multi-channel content is a plus.
