Job Description
Coordinate, recruit and implement volunteer programs and services to proactively respond to community issues. Works to promote volunteer involvement through public service projects and serves as a liaison between the city, nonprofit groups, businesses, and community leaders. Plans, coordinates, implements, and evaluates community volunteer projects and activities in partnership with City residents, community-based organizations, businesses, and city departments Develop and maintain a database of information on volunteer sources, volunteer participation, tracking volunteer information including monthly Volgistics Reports Develop and coordinate recognition activities for volunteers/partners/stakeholders including National Volunteer Appreciation Week Develop and maintain strong, positive relationships with collaborative partners including other municipalities, community organizations, school districts, corporations, and service provider agencies Attend community outreach events and actively participate in volunteer recruitment Develop and maintain community education opportunities to address community needs. Participates in planning the division budget; provides estimates; monitors the budget for program areas of responsibility. Research and apply for new grants to grow and sustain programs and services. Develop public information materials needed for programs and events Evaluate community needs and service gaps, and research potential solutions and community best practices. Assists with other Community Services Department programs, stakeholder engagement, and outreach strategies. Monitors use, care, and maintenance of equipment while maintaining a supply inventory Operates city vehicles Performs other related duties as assigned Associate degree in related field such as Social Services, Recreation Human Services, or related field and two (2) years' experience in program/event management or related work. Bachelor's degree is highly preferred. Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. One year of relevant experience may be substituted for each year of required education. Knowledge Of Principles, methods, and practices of planning and implementing community-based volunteer programs Methods and techniques of volunteer recruitment and management Principles of effective partnerships, community engagement and outreach City policies and procedures, community demographics Ability To Effectively plan, organize, implement, and coordinate a community volunteer program or project Work a flexible schedule including weekends and evenings Conduct research, analyze findings, make recommendations, prepare reports Effectively communicate verbally and in writing to volunteers, employees, and the public Establish and maintain working relationships with volunteers, city departments, community partners, private businesses, elected officials and the public Maintain awareness of potentially sensitive issues relating to events/programs, including visibility, cost, citizen participation and perception, and event theme and purpose Interpret and apply city laws, regulations, policies, and procedures Utilize assessments to identify individual and community needs Special Requirements Valid AZ Driver’s License. This position is classified as safety-sensitive which requires candidates to successfully undergo drug and alcohol testing prior to employment. They will be subject to further drug and alcohol testing throughout their period of employment in accordance with the City of Glendale Substance Abuse policy. A post-offer physical assessment is required. The City of Glendale will incur the cost of all required testing.
