Responsibilities

• Movement Storyteller — compelling and inspiring storytelling
• Newsletter & social content: build the bimonthly newsletter and manage HSCC's social accounts with narrative- and action-oriented posts, not just updates.
• Visual storytelling: design graphics and visuals in Canva/Adobe that make housing policy legible, clear, community-friendly, and shareable.
• Digital Hub Builder — optimize the website to serve as an organizing tool
• Resource hub: turn the Squarespace site into an interactive toolkit — clear calls-to-action, organizing resources, and pages that convert visitors into advocates.
• Advocacy calendar: maintain a public-facing calendar of Planning Commission, City Council, and Board of Supervisors dates so supporters know exactly when to show up.
• Coalition & Community Engagement — co-creating high-impact engagement and mobilization events. Affordable Housing Month (AHM) is the year's flagship campaign. Planning ramps up in the winter and builds through the spring, culminating each May in a full month of partner-led programming and HSCC's signature Kickoff event that engages, educates, and galvanizes the community around affordable housing.
• AHM coordination: lead communications for AHM year-round — partner outreach, PR and press, sponsor recognition, and HSCC's Kickoff event — building toward May's culminating month of programming.
• Initiative design: help design additional multi-week pushes that bring together community members, developers, and elected officials around a shared moment.
• Event logistics: coordinate registration, guest communications, and promotion for community engagement events and coalition convenings, including paid events set up through our EveryAction CRM.

Requirements

• You believe in the mission: affordable housing and a racial and social justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion framework aren’t add-ons — they’re the point.
• You’re a storyteller: you can turn a data point or a resident’s experience into something that moves people to act.
• You have strong computer knowledge, including Squarespace or a similar CMS, EveryAction CRM (or a comparable CRM/event-registration platform), Canva, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Office, and social media platforms and schedulers.
• You’re organized: able to juggle multiple deadlines and campaigns without dropping the ball.
• You’re curious about local government: familiarity with nonprofit or local government processes, or a genuine interest in learning about them.
• You communicate well: strong writing and verbal communication across diverse audiences and platforms.
• Independent and Collaborative: Comfortable working independently in a remote environment, taking initiative, managing responsibilities, and staying closely connected with a small team.
• You’re flexible: occasional evenings or weekends for events.
• You bring experience: at least two years in communications, marketing, coordination, or organizing.
• You’re a relationship builder: you enjoy connecting with people, building partnerships, and bringing diverse voices and organizations together around a shared goal.
