Job Description

Responsibilities

  • The Community Engagement Coordinator builds and maintains vital relationships with residents, local businesses, civic groups, and houses of worship to identify concerns and develop collaborative, problem-solving partnerships.
  • In this role, you will conduct follow-up outreach communication to gather details on ongoing community issues, document outcomes, and analyze neighborhood trends and basic crime data to support local problem-solving initiatives.
  • This position facilitates communication and meetings between police personnel and community stakeholders, and directly coordinates logistics—including scheduling, registration, and materials—for police-led programs, National Night Out, camps, conferences, and academies like the Citizens, Teen, and Hispanic Academies.
  • Additionally, you will represent the Police Department at safety and crime prevention meetings, prepare presentations, and administer specialized community programs such as Business Watch, Worship Watch, and Project Lifesaver by maintaining accurate, confidential participant records and tracking equipment.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, social work, or a related field; two years of professional experience in criminal justice, human services; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Working knowledge of the basics of community policing, including relevant policies, laws, and ethical standards of public service.
  • Strong understanding of community demographics, local civic organizations, and neighborhood needs.
  • Ability to design, implement, and evaluate effective community outreach strategies, public education efforts, and event coordination.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and to develop and maintain productive working relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work; perform a variety of responsible and administrative tasks; to work efficiently and accurately; and maintain confidential records.
  • Ability to provide courteous, professional service to a diverse range of department and community members.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer and other standard office equipment, including Microsoft Office software products.
  • Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.
  • This position is considered Critical Safety Sensitive and is subject to random drug testing and alcohol testing.
