Job Description

Join the N.C. Education Lottery as a Communications Specialist and bring your digital storytelling skills to a mission‑driven organization. You’ll produce video stories, design animated graphics, write for multiple platforms, and manage awareness campaigns for winners. You’ll also build media relationships, support corporate communications, and keep employees connected through engaging internal content. Responsibilities: 

  • Oversees and generates the lottery’s winner awareness
  • Develops and establishes positive media relations by building relationships with key media influencers
  • Promotes lottery games and promotions through media releases to both traditional and new media and directly to the public through posts on online channels in alignment with brand messaging
  • Conducts internal communications for lottery employees, editing and producing content for the lottery’s Intranet site, LinkedIn and other channels
  • Supports public relations by producing content and messaging
  • Tracks and monitors news media coverage and public perception of the lottery

Requirements: 

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, or related field such as journalism, and 1 to 3 years’ experience in communications or a related field. A master’s degree will be preferred.
  • Knowledge of media relations including the ability to write a media release, pitch a story, organize a media event, and build working relationships with members of the media.
  • Ability to effectively communicate a brand message on and off camera when handling media requests.
  • Ability to serve as spokesperson for the brand while presenting to civic groups and other organizations.
  • Ability to take complicated information and present it in a format that is easy to understand.
  • Knowledge of media monitoring software.
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud programs including Photoshop, Premiere Pro, and After Effects.
  • Skill with email marketing programs such as Constant Contact.
  • Skilled video editor with the ability to create animated graphics and GIFs.
  • Ability to generate a video concept, storyboard it, and work with a photographer/videographer to identify and capture needed shots.
  • Ability to conduct an interview and capture compelling content to shape into print and visual stories.
  • Knowledge of social media sites: Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, and Instagram.
  • Knowledge of basic Microsoft programs: Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
  • Ability to write effectively for outlets such as media releases, blogs, social media posts, annual reports, etc.

Hiring Rate: $61,804
