Music to Life connects socially conscious musicians with the mentors, resources and training needed to realize their bold visions for community change.A cultural icon for the political and protest movements of the 60’s, Noel Paul Stookey (of the folk trio Peter, Paul & Mary) and his enterprising daughter, Liz, carry the organization's vision together.For more than a decade, Liz & Noel Paul have explored the landscape of music and social justice, asking how music might become a more strategic tool for social change. To test the waters, the father/daughter pair recruited a diverse, cross-functional national team, producing social justice songwriting contests, multimedia programs, educational panels, conference sessions and commemorative events.The answer to their question? Music isn't the tool for change...the artists are.Since 2000, Music to Life has collaborated with musicians and nonprofits nationwide to develop music-driven programs that raise awareness, spark engagement and empower vulnerable populations. Artists in our network have created LGBTQ operas for teens, an eco hip-hop curriculum for elementary kids, a mind, spirit and music project to heal from Parkinson’s Disease, and lyrical self-esteem circles for women in prison, veterans and homeless individuals.
