Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Plan and coordinate strategic communications and public relations to enhance understanding of the District's mission, objectives, services, and activities.
  • Perform duties in media relations, strategic communications, brand strategy, social media, website communications, videography, and event planning and execution.
  • Develops a strategic communication plan for the district.
  • Develop a crisis communication artifacts and templates for the district.
  • Provide high-quality communications and marketing that effectively promotes the Lee County School System (District) and its services.
  • Provide training for district staff related to effective communications and marketing.
  • Provide leadership in media relations and crisis communications as directed.
  • Plan and coordinate development of public engagement plans and public information materials to shape public opinion and help the community understand offerings.
  • Attend school board meetings and other district-wide events to promote and plan communication strategy.
  • Lead the communications team for the school district.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or closely related field.
  • Five (5) years of progressive communications or public relations experience.
  • Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, website and content management systems, graphic design and brand management platforms, social media and digital engagement tools, mass communication systems, and video and multimedia production platforms.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with stakeholders inside and outside the District.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships inside and outside the District.
  • Ability to work in a highly visible and fast-paced work environment.
  • Ability to work under pressure and deal effectively with unexpected events in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Ability to research, organize, compose, design and deliver press releases, public information, and communication materials in print and digital format.
  • Ability to use multiple technology devices to complete essential functions of the job.

Preferred

  • Master's Degree in related field preferred.
  • Previous experience with public schools preferred.
