Job Summary

Own content strategy and community program for the Virtual World Society, coordinating monthly calendars, multi-channel publishing, live virtual events, and media outreach, while leveraging AI tools to deliver quality output in about 8 hours per week.

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Plan a monthly content-and-community calendar spanning the Society's full topical remit.
  • Publish 8–12 LinkedIn posts a month, adapted to X and Instagram, and run timeboxed community engagement sessions.
  • Run a light monthly community touchpoint plus one flagship live virtual event per quarter: a Zoom/LinkedIn Live panel, an AMA with a board member or partner, or an immersive/SocialXR fireside.
  • Produce 2–4 short clips a month from existing convenings, firesides and podcast recordings for YouTube and social.
  • Launch the monthly newsletter in Month 1 and publish one issue every month.
  • Keep the press kit current, answer media enquiries within 2 business days, and lead one proactive pitch, op-ed or interview effort a month.
  • Support fundraising with donor-ready stories and campaign assets, working closely with the VWS Fundraising Lead.
  • Keep website news current and share a one-page KPI dashboard each month.
  • The role deliberately assumes smart use of AI tools to fit meaningful output into about 8 hours a week, with every public item passing your editorial judgment and the Society's voice guidelines.

Requirements

  • A track record running social media, newsletters and online community for a mission-driven organisation, brand or publication (nonprofit experience is a plus).
  • Real fluency across emerging technology (AI, robotics, quantum, the space economy, spatial/immersive computing) and the ability to write about it with nuance and without hype.
  • A strong editorial voice in English and the craft to adapt one idea across LinkedIn, X, Instagram, YouTube and email.
  • Experience planning, promoting and hosting live virtual events (Zoom, LinkedIn Live); experience with social VR/XR platforms is a plus.
  • Confident, hands-on use of AI tools for drafting, clipping, subtitling and newsletter assembly, with sound judgment about quality and confidentiality.
  • Some press and media-relations experience, and comfort with simple analytics and monthly reporting.
  • Self-directed and reliable: you deliver consistently within about 8 hours a week and work well asynchronously with an international board.

Preferred

  • nonprofit experience is a plus
  • experience with social VR/XR platforms is a plus
