Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a monthly editorial calendar aligned with organizational priorities, events, volunteer recruitment, fundraising initiatives, and timely information related to CASA’s mission.
  • Write, edit, schedule, and publish content for CASA of the Heartland’s social media platforms, website, email communications, print pieces, and other public-facing channels.
  • Maintain a consistent organizational voice and ensure communications follow CASA of the Heartland’s brand standards, confidentiality requirements, and expectations for respectful, trauma-informed storytelling.
  • Write and distribute press releases and media advisories highlighting key initiatives, events, milestones, partnerships, and mission impact.
  • Distribute or localize relevant press materials provided by National CASA/GAL, Kentucky CASA Network, and other trusted partners.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with local media contacts and coordinate interviews, supporting information, spokesperson preparation, and follow-up as needed.
  • Share earned media coverage through CASA’s social media platforms and other appropriate communication channels.
  • Create at least six brief volunteer, donor, staff, community-partner, or mission spotlights each year for use on social media and the website.
  • Plan and oversee up to six mission-focused video projects each year, including project goals, scheduling, participants, logistics, approvals, and final delivery.
  • Publish completed videos to CASA’s YouTube channel and website and adapt them for other communication channels when appropriate.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of a bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, English, Advertising, Business, Nonprofit Management, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Three or more years of experience in communications, public relations, content development, community engagement, nonprofit storytelling, or a related area is preferred.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to adapt content for different audiences and platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize projects, manage competing deadlines, and maintain close attention to detail.
  • Experience creating content for social media, websites, print materials, press outreach, or other public-facing communications.
  • Ability to communicate complex or sensitive information clearly, respectfully, and accurately.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with staff, volunteers, donors, community partners, media representatives, and outside vendors.
  • Sound judgment, discretion, and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently, anticipate needs and obstacles, respond promptly, and follow projects through completion.
  • Proficiency with common content-development, social media scheduling, website, email, design, and reporting tools, with the ability to learn new platforms.

Preferred

  • Three or more years of experience in communications, public relations, content development, community engagement, nonprofit storytelling, or a related area is preferred.
  • Experience coordinating photographers, videographers, graphic designers, printers, media outlets, or other external vendors is preferred.
  • Experience reviewing digital and social media performance data and using results to strengthen future outreach is preferred.
  • Familiarity with nonprofit organizations, volunteer-based programs, fundraising communications, or mission-driven community engagement is preferred.
