Position Information

This position offers flexible scheduling. While a majority of hours should be served between 8am-5pm on weekdays, some projects may be completed in the evening and/or Saturdays.
Pay Grade Salary Hourly Pay Rate $ 12.00 FLSA Job Summary/Basic Function
College of Social Sciences and Education (CSSE) Peer Mentors will perform various duties and tasks
related to CSSE retention programs, peer mentoring, and student outreach. Individuals will become
familiar with all CSSE programs, the WSU student portal, and other relevant technology. They will
establish and maintain professional boundaries while working with students. Duties will include, but are not limited to:
  • Helping students navigate campus resources,
  • Providing peer mentoring at on-campus student mentor centers,
  • Preparing and planning for events,
  • Making outreach phone calls and sending email messages,
  • Tabling and classroom visits, both on campus and at area high schools,
  • Developing and giving presentations as part of introductory CSSE (SBS 1050) classes and Weber
Welcome events,
  • Completing all required training in a timely manner and attending team meetings and other related duties as assigned.
This position is eligible for work study.
Required Qualifications
Must be an undergraduate (working towards first degree) and have completed at least two semesters at Weber State.
Must be a full-time Weber State student (minimum of 12 credit hours in fall/spring and minimum of 6 credit hours in summer).
GPA of 2.75 or higher.
Must be able to handle sensitive student information and protect it according to FERPA guidelines.
Able to take feedback and be willing to learn new skills.
Good customer service skills.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Desire to build connections across campus and throughout the community.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Class standing of sophomore or higher.
  • Bilingual (Spanish preferred).
  • Majoring in programs within the College of Social Sciences and Education.
  • Proficient in technologies for written communication and virtual meetings such as Microsoft Office, G Suite applications, and Zoom.
  • 1 year+ customer service, tutoring, or mentoring experience.
  • Detail-oriented and have the ability to organize, prioritize and meet deadlines both independently and as part of a team.
