Why does the job exist?
This position exists to oversee and enhance the quality of nursing care in state facilities and public health offices. This pivotal role will focus on coordinating care across the agency, ensuring consistency and delivery of the highest standard of services in state-run facilities and public health programs.
How does it get done?
Provides oversight of all nursing services to foster a statewide clinical nursing model, ensures patient safety and wellbeing through audit review and clinical case consultation activities, creation of new policies and updating existing policies to improve the level of care across NMDOH clinical settings, supports facility nursing staff to ensure appropriate staffing is provided on all shifts, maintains occupancy of the facility at optimum levels by applying marketing and outreach techniques, provides recommendations for maximizing reimbursement potential for facilities while adhering to best practices.
Who are the customers?
This position will allow an agency-wide overview and coordination of nursing staff across all NMDOH facilities and public health offices to ensure the best care is provided to the New Mexico residents and patients. This role is also established to provide support to the nursing workforce through clinical case consultation, knowledge sharing and implementation of best practices.

Minimum Qualification
Must possess a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in New Mexico, or eligibility for such licensure in accordance with New Mexico requirements, or eligibility for a temporary license issued for employment at a specific institution in New Mexico and six (6) years of management experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting within a long-term facility with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Walking throughout the facility and frequent communication and interaction with residents, staff, and the public. Periods of walking, standing, bending pushing, pulling, lifting, and stretching for a variety of activities may be required. Occasional travel for training and meetings and driving a State of NM owned motor vehicle may be required; some lifting; extended hours to meet deadlines will be required.
