Job Description

Bonfire Cinema is expanding its publishing division and seeking a Book Publishing Coordinator in Training to work directly with leadership in a hands-on mentorship environment. This is a volunteer-to-paid growth track, designed for someone serious about building a career in publishing, with the opportunity to step into a leadership role within the division after one year, based on performance and evaluation.

This role is ideal for someone who understands storytelling across mediums and is passionate about books, impact-driven content, and strategic publishing growth.

What You’ll Do

  • Assist in the coordination and development of book publishing projects from concept to release
  • Support editorial workflows, manuscript organization, and publishing timelines
  • Contribute to PR, marketing, and launch strategies for book releases
  • Help develop outreach materials (press kits, pitches, metadata, distribution copy)
  • Research industry trends, distribution platforms, and audience positioning
  • Collaborate on building scalable systems for the publishing division
  • Participate in strategy discussions with leadership

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong interest in book publishing, editorial, or literary development
  • Experience or familiarity with publishing, PR, marketing, or content strategy (preferred)
  • Proficiency with Discord and comfort working within collaborative online environments
  • Highly organized, proactive, and detail-oriented
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment
  • Passion for meaningful storytelling and growth

Bonus Qualifications

  • Prior experience with a publisher, literary agency, or PR/marketing for books
  • Understanding of distribution platforms (IngramSpark, Amazon KDP, Lightning Source / LSI)
  • Knowledge of the Chicago Manual of Style for editorial standards
  • Based in Los Angeles or interested in relocating long-term

Growth Path

This role is designed as a mentorship-to-leadership pipeline. Upon successful completion of the one-year training period, candidates may be considered for a paid position and potential leadership role within the publishing division, helping shape the future of Bonfire Cinema Publishing.
