Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Manages complaints and disputes from other institutions and media outlets working as an intermediary between various stakeholders, including coaches, student-athletes, university administrators, and the NCAA/Conference offices.
  • Promotes teams and programs through written content, including press releases, game recaps, game programs, media guides and feature stories.
  • Acts as the frontline spokesperson for various teams, responding to media requests, supervising statistical crews and other media support personnel.
  • Travels with assigned teams to cover games and events.
  • Coordinates and manages media events, including interviews, press conferences, and credentialing.
  • Leads and manages sport-specific content updates on the athletics website and official social media platforms.
  • Works with all external departments to create a social media strategy and consistent messaging across all platforms, bringing to life the question, “Who is UIW Athletics?”
  • Ensures financial accountability by managing media deliverables tied to corporate sponsorship agreements, including brand placement, digital exposure, and promotional content, to fulfill contractual obligations and protect revenue-generating partnerships.
  • Enforces communications and branding policies in line with the NCAA, Southland Conference, Ohio Valley Conference, and Mountain Pacific Sports Federation regulations.
  • Shapes and maintains the athletic department’s external brand identity and ensures consistent messaging across all platforms.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in Photoshop and Illustrator.
  • Ability to learn and effectively use StatCrew and NCAA LiveStats.
  • Superlative writing, verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong multitasking and project management skills.
  • Detail-oriented and organized.
  • Tact, discretion and the ability to maintain confidentiality, when required.
  • Ability to establish structure during periods of change and growth.
  • Ability to make decisions in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment.
  • Ability to follow the mission of the university.

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Sports Management, or related field.
  • Experience in public relations and/or marketing.
