AI Product Engineer

Location: Remote (US) / Hybrid (Weston, FL optional)

Compensation: Competitive + equity

Employment type: Full-time

About Phoenix

Phoenix is building the AI-native operating system for performance commerce.

They unify storefronts, checkout, payments, and operations into a single platform where AI agents handle complexity and drive outcomes.

• $10M+ ARR and growing

• 8-figure revenue in <2 years (top 0.5% of 2024 startups)

• Profitable on a per-merchant basis

• 100%+ YoY growth

They power a segment most of Silicon Valley ignored: high-velocity, product-led e-commerce businesses doing $10M–$50M+ annually.

Now they’re at the inflection point where AI will reshape how these businesses operate daily.

The Role

You’ll build and ship agent-driven product features used directly by merchants.

This is not research. It’s product.

You own the full lifecycle:

• Designing agent workflows

• Shipping LLM-backed systems

• Translating model outputs into real product behavior

• Driving measurable business impact (conversion, approvals, retention)

You sit at the intersection of:

• Agent design

• LLM systems

• Backend infrastructure

• Product experimentation

Your job is simple: turn intelligence into product outcomes.

What this requires

• Strong backend engineering (TypeScript/Node, or similar)

• Experience shipping production AI / LLM systems

• Ability to design multi-step agents or tool-using systems

• Deep understanding of prompts, RAG, evals, and tradeoffs

• Comfort operating real production systems (latency, cost, reliability)

• High ownership and speed in ambiguous environments

Nice to have

• Experience in e-commerce / payments / conversion systems

• Experience with agentic systems (memory, planning, tool use)

• LLMOps / evaluation pipelines

• Experience tying AI systems directly to business metrics

What success looks like

Within ~12 months:

• Multiple AI features driving measurable merchant outcomes

• Reliable agent workflows operating at scale

• Strong eval + monitoring systems for LLM features

• Tight feedback loops between product and business impact

Why this role

Most AI roles are still building demos. This is different.

You’ll ship AI systems that:

• Run real workflows for real businesses

• Directly impact revenue and operations

• Improve with every merchant on the platform

If you care about shipping, ownership, and real-world impact — this is the kind of environment that compounds fast.
