THE ROLE_

The AP Manager leads Talon's North American accounts payable function, reporting to the Director of Transactional Finance. The role owns invoice processing, vendor payments, and the day-to-day operation of the AP function, including managing the use of AP automation technology and the controls that safeguard the payment lifecycle. This is a hands-on leadership role managing a team of AP Specialists across both the US and Canada and central to the operational integrity of the finance function.

A DAY IN THE LIFE_

  • Accounts Payable Operations: Own the end-to-end accounts payable process, including invoice processing, coding, approvals, vendor payments, and expense management, ensuring accuracy and timeliness across high volumes.
  • AP Automation: Operate and optimize the AP automation platform, driving straight-through processing, reducing manual intervention, and ensuring the platform is used to its full capability.
  • Payment Controls: Maintain and strengthen controls across the payment and vendor management lifecycle, including vendor master data integrity, bank detail verification, payment approval workflows, and segregation of duties.
  • Vendor Management: Serve as the primary point of contact for vendor payment queries, building strong relationships with vendors and internal stakeholders and resolving issues promptly.
  • Team Leadership: Lead, develop, and mentor the AP specialist team across multiple locations, fostering a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
  • Close Support: Support the month-end close by ensuring accurate and timely AP sub-ledger close, reconciliations, and accruals.
  • Reporting & Metrics: Establish and monitor AP performance metrics, reporting on processing volumes, aging, and process health to the Director of Transactional Accounting.
  • Process Improvement: Identify and implement improvements to AP processes, increasing efficiency and scalability as the North American business grows and integrates acquired entities.
  • Compliance: Ensure AP processes comply with company policy, tax requirements (including 1099 and Canadian equivalents), and audit standards.
  • Cross-Functional Partnership: Partner with procurement, operations, the FP&A team, and finance colleagues to support cash flow management and resolve payment issues.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR_

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
  • 6+ years of accounts payable experience, including team leadership

  • Experience operating and optimizing AP automation platforms
  • Strong understanding of payment controls, vendor master data integrity, and fraud prevention
  • Experience managing AP through a period of process change or systems implementation
  • Experience in a private equity-backed or high-growth environment preferred
  • Experience in Media sector preferred
  • Experience working across US and Canadian payables processes preferred
  • Highly proficient in MS Excel; ERP experience required
  • NetSuite experience preferred but not essential
  • Excellent analytical, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Flexible with the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Self-motivated with a positive can-do attitude
  • Ability to work with a cross-functional team across multiple regions (US, Canada, UK)
  • Ability and willingness to get their sleeves rolled up and get into the detail
  • Strong commercial business acumen
  • Experience with advertising agency-specific financial systems and ability to successfully work with and utilize company financial resources
