Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Write, edit, and produce high-quality content for digital and print platforms including websites in enterprise content management systems.
  • Develop content that supports enrollment, retention, advancement, and community engagement goals.
  • Collaborate with departments to translate complex academic and institutional information into accessible, engaging narratives.
  • Ensure all content aligns with the institution’s brand voice, tone, and messaging guidelines.
  • Maintain consistency across platforms while tailoring messages for specific audiences (e.g., prospective students, faculty, alumni, influencers, and community leaders).
  • Model professional decorum and mutual respect in all personal interactions.
  • Comply with district policies, procedures and directives, state and federal regulations, orders and statutes and collective bargaining agreements.
  • Support and advance Spokane Colleges’ strategic plan and perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Communications, Journalism, English, or Marketing. Or an equivalent mix of education and experience that demonstrates the candidate meets all competency requirements for this position.
  • 1-2 years of professional web writing experience, preferably in higher education.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Ability to write for diverse audiences and platforms.
  • Strong understanding of SEO, digital content strategy, and analytics.
  • Experience with content management systems (CMS), particularly Modern Campus.
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills.

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, English, or Marketing or in a related field.
  • 3+ years of professional writing experience, preferably for websites in higher education.
  • Experience working in a college or university communications office.
  • Familiarity with AP style and editorial best practices.
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards for digital content.
