Responsibilities

• Develop a public-facing, interactive online storymap using GIS data from Olympia’s Tree Canopy Assessment.
• Draft maps, surveys, newsletters, social content, flyers, and other outreach materials to promote public involvement.
• Participate in planning and delivering community workshops, tabling events, and public meetings.
• Assist in organizing, analyzing, and synthesizing data.
• Provide additional GIS work and research aligned to interests, including equity and environmental justice considerations and stormwater management through canopy and green infrastructure.

Requirements

• Enrolled in an associate, undergraduate or graduate degree program for Fall 2026 or sooner; students graduating in Spring or Summer 2026 are eligible through September 2026.
• Experience using ESRI ArcPro for basic data analysis, developing maps, and creating storymaps.
• General understanding of the benefits and challenges of trees and forests in built and natural environments.
• General understanding of environmental and climate justice issues and/or interest in promoting equity in environmental work.
• Excellent editing and communication skills across formats: email, newsletters, social media, graphics, maps, and public speaking.
• Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.

Preferred

• Interested in urban/environmental planning, community engagement, education, climate resilience, environmental justice, GIS, urban ecology, urban forestry, policymaking.
• Curious and creative, willing to think outside the box.
• Comfortable working independently to meet deadlines and collaborating as part of a project team.
• Ability to collaborate respectfully with people of diverse backgrounds.
• Experience using ESRI ArcPro for basic data analysis, developing maps, and creating storymaps (also in Requirements).
• Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams (also in Requirements).
