Job Description

Responsibilities

  • WOSB is seeking an experienced Senior Communications Strategist to lead high-impact health care and behavioral communications initiatives supporting complex federal programs.
  • This role is responsible for developing comprehensive communications strategies, overseeing message architecture, guiding audience segmentation and insights development, and ensuring integration across digital, print, media, and stakeholder engagement channels.
  • The Senior Strategist will serve as a trusted advisor to clients and leadership, translating technical health information into clear, actionable messaging that drives behavior change and improves outcomes.
  • The Senior Strategist will be responsible for ensuring quality, compliance, and measurable impact across all communications deliverables while mentoring junior staff and strengthening internal capabilities.

Requirements

  • The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience supporting federal health clients, preferably within the U.S. Department of Defense or the Veterans Health Administration.
  • Deep understanding of behavioral science principles, risk communication, crisis communication, and health literacy best practices is required.
  • Strong expertise in Strategic Communications, including the ability to develop and execute effective communication plans.
  • Experience with Media Relations, including liaising with journalists and managing media inquiries.
  • Proven ability to handle Internal Communications and foster transparent information sharing within organizations.
  • Strong Communication skills and the ability to engage with diverse audiences effectively.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and presentation capabilities.
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field is required.
  • a master's degree is preferred.

Preferred

  • Experience navigating federal approval processes, developing executive-level briefings, and leading multidisciplinary communications teams is strongly preferred.
  • Extensive experience in crisis management and handling sensitive communication challenges is desirable.
