Job Description

Responsibilities

  • planning, coordinating and leading the implementation of strategic communications and City events for the City of Great Bend, serving as the Public Information Officer, delivering and providing information about Great Bend to promote our community as well as to get needed information out in the event of an emergency, as directed by the City Administrator.
  • Performs duties related to marketing, community coordination, community partnerships, and event facilitation working closely with the CVB Director as well as Great Bend Economic Development and the Chamber of Commerce.
  • A. Will assist the CVB Director to promote and market the Community to a culturally and economically diverse audience and to enrich the lives of all residents of the Great Bend residents and increase regional and local visitors to the area.
  • B. Will implement decisions and directives that align with the City’s vision and goals.
  • C. Prepares annual report/summary for Council.
  • D. Prepares annual marketing budget and maintains budget in accordance with City policies and the “accounting policies and procedures” and bylaws of the organization in relation to events and marketing.
  • E. As directed and approved by the City Administrator, attends out-of-town training, recruiting events, and meetings that are beneficial to Great Bend, which may include overnight travel.
  • F. Working with Department Heads and Secretaries, maintains and updates the city website.
  • G. Maintains and updates the City’s website and serves as the point of contact for the City’s website provider. Oversee all City-related social media accounts which include Facebook, Instagram and YouTube as well as handles content planning for those sites.
  • H. Maintains organizational records, files, documents and archives.

Requirements

  • A. Demonstrate knowledge of the practices, principles, and ethics of marketing.
  • B. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • C. Ability to plan, organize, direct, and coordinate City events as well as evaluate the need for communication to the city.
  • D. Ability to establish cooperative and effective working relationships with the public, volunteers, and outside agencies.
  • E. Ability to understand and anticipate problems, to assist with the development of city policies, to prepare reports and budgets related to marketing and event development and facilitation.
  • F. Ability to utilize problem-solving skills.
  • G. Ability to exercise independent decision-making skills in resolving issues and prioritizing tasks, events, and projects.
  • H. Demonstrate working knowledge of computers and modern office practices.
  • I. Valid Kansas driver’s license required.
  • Education/Experience: We prefer a bachelor’s degree in marketing, business administration, journalism and mass communications, event/hospitality management or a related field, or three plus years of related experience in marketing or event planning.
