Job Summary

Own media relations, internal communications and events strategy to safeguard brand, shape narrative, and drive visibility across campus and external audiences.

  • Media Relations & Crisis: Build media relationships, pitch stories, manage inquiries, monitor coverage, and back up the spokesperson role with crisis plan alignment.
  • Internal Communications: Command campus-wide messaging, publish newsletters and reports, and advise partners on strategic communication for key initiatives.
  • Events & Promotion: Plan high quality events, craft event communications, coordinate logistics, and maximize media visibility and storytelling opportunities.

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • MEDIA RELATIONS: Builds and maintains relationships with local, regional and trade media to advance the College’s visibility and reputation.
  • MEDIA RELATIONS: Develops and distributes press releases, media advisories, and feature stories.
  • MEDIA RELATIONS: Plans and executes press conferences and media events.
  • MEDIA RELATIONS: Proactively pitches stories that highlight programs, student success, faculty expertise, and community impact.
  • MEDIA RELATIONS: Responds to media inquiries in a timely and strategic manner.
  • MEDIA RELATIONS: Monitors media coverage, analyzes results, and prepares reports to inform public relations strategy.
  • MEDIA RELATIONS: Serves as the back-up agency spokesperson, providing accurate, timely and transparent media responses and interviews while protecting the agency's brand, image and reputation.
  • MEDIA RELATIONS: Guides the modification and deployment of the agency’s crisis communication plan and inclement weather plan, ensuring ongoing effectiveness and alignment with best practices.
  • MEDIA RELATIONS: Serves as the agency's back-up responder to Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests.
  • INTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS: Directs the planning and execution of internal communications and publications to ensure accuracy, consistency, clarity and effectiveness.
  • INTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS: Leads the development of public relations publications including but not limited to a weekly electronic newsletter, bi-monthly newsletter, annual report, award nominations, resolutions, and special publications.
  • INTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS: Provides strategic communications support for key institutional announcements and initiatives and advises campus partners on messaging and communication approaches.
  • EVENT PLANNING: Plans and implements institutional events that support the College’s strategic priorities, brand, and community engagement efforts.
  • EVENT PLANNING: Collaborates with internal departments and external partners to guide logistics, messaging, and promotion for events.
  • EVENT PLANNING: Develops event-related communications materials such as invitations, programs, scripts, and talking points.
  • EVENT PLANNING: Oversees event timelines, vendor coordination, and on-site execution to ensure a high-quality, on-brand experience.
  • EVENT PLANNING: Identifies opportunities to leverage events for media visibility and storytelling.
