Job Summary

Own the player facing content engine by shaping the editorial and video narrative around events, players, and communities, and drive cross-team collaboration to publish across Magic.gg and related channels.

  • Content Pipeline: Own the publishing calendar, roadmap, and freelancer network to deliver timely player content.
  • Story Engine: Spot compelling moments from players and events and spin them into editorial, video, and social.
  • Live-event Collaboration: Align with events, operations, and comms to fuel content before, during, and after live shows.

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Content Calendar and Publishing Roadmap: Lead the content calendar and publishing roadmap for Play content across Magic.gg and supporting channels.
  • Editorial Content Production: Develop and publish content that highlights players, communities, events, and play experiences across Magic's competitive and in-store play programs.
  • Editorial Content Management: Manage editorial content including event guides, decklists, feature stories, community spotlights, tournament coverage, event recaps, and other player-facing communications.
  • Video & Social Content: Produce and edit short-form video and social content using event, livestream, and other assets.
  • Story Sourcing: Identify compelling stories, moments, and achievements that can be transformed into engaging editorial, video, and social content.
  • Content Partnerships: Partner with event, tournament operations, and communications to support content before, during, and after live events.
  • Freelance & Contributors: Manage freelance writers and other external contributors.
  • Editorial Direction: Provide editorial direction and ensure content meets quality, accuracy, and brand standards.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate across internal teams and external partners to deliver engaging player-facing content.
  • Performance Optimization: Use audience insights and performance metrics to continuously improve content impact and engagement.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience in content management, editorial, journalism, digital content production creative development, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of Magic: The Gathering, including organized play, community play experiences, and the broader player community.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally, approximately 8–10 times per year and usually on weekends.
  • Outstanding writing, editing, storytelling, and communication skills.
  • Experience crafting, editing, or producing written, visual, or video content for digital audiences, including short-form video content.
  • Experience managing multiple projects, deadlines, contributors, and stakeholders in a fast-paced environment, up to and including hour-by-hour or even minute-by-minute deadlines.
  • Experience working with content management systems, digital publishing tools, and content performance metrics.
  • Experience working with freelancers, creators, agencies, vendors, or external contributors.
  • Experience with live events, gaming, esports, entertainment, or community-focused programs is a plus.
