Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Social Media & Digital Channel Management
  • Manage the council’s social media presence day to day across Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, and emerging platforms.
  • Build and maintain a rolling content calendar aligned with the council’s recruitment, program, camping, and fundraising calendar.
  • Write, schedule, and publish posts; monitor comments and direct messages and respond or route them appropriately.
  • Support district and unit-level social efforts with templates, brand guidance, and shareable assets.
  • Build and manage paid social campaigns (primarily Meta) within approved budgets, including audience setup, creative, and compliance with platform advertising policies.
  • Content Creation & Graphic Design
  • Design and produce marketing collateral: flyers, brochures, posters, yard signs, banners, program guides, presentation decks, and digital ads.
  • Produce photo and short-form video content, including capture at council events and editing for social and web use.
  • Interview Scouts, families, volunteers, and alumni to write recurring human-interest stories for the website, newsletters, and media pitches.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations, journalism, graphic design, or a related field – or equivalent professional experience.
  • Two or more years of experience in marketing, communications, or digital content production (internship and agency experience counts).
  • Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to adapt voice for parents, youth, volunteers, donors, and media.
  • Demonstrated hands-on ability with graphic design tools – Canva required; Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere) strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of business social media management and paid social advertising.
  • Experience with an email marketing platform (Constant Contact, Mailchimp, or similar) and a website CMS (WordPress or similar).
  • Highly organized and deadline-driven, with the ability to manage many concurrent projects and stakeholders.
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and willingness to travel within the council’s service area.
  • Ability to pass a background check and complete Scouting America Youth Protection Training upon hire.

Preferred

  • Photography and video editing skills.
  • Experience in nonprofit, youth-serving, membership, or volunteer-driven organizations.
  • Familiarity with Google Analytics, Meta Business Suite, and social scheduling tools.
  • Experience supporting fundraising or donor communications.
  • Personal or family experience with Scouting.
