Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Define and lead the organization’s editorial content strategy to support fundraising priorities and donor engagement.
  • Align content initiatives with institutional goals and philanthropic objectives.
  • Drive innovation in storytelling and digital content integration.
  • Manage and mentor a team of writers and editors, fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration.
  • Build team capacity to deliver high-quality, donor-focused content across channels.
  • Oversee creation of proposals, impact reports, campaign materials, event collateral, and stewardship communications for top-tier donors.
  • Ensure content reflects Children’s National brand voice, mission, and values while meeting strategic objectives.
  • Lead editorial planning cycles and manage complex workflows for major campaigns and the Children’s National Magazine
  • Establish and maintain editorial guidelines, templates, and quality standards.
  • Ensure consistency in tone, voice, and messaging across all communications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree Preferably in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, or related field. (Required)
  • Master's Degree Preferably in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, or related field. (Preferred)
  • 15+ years in nonprofit advancement or communications, including content strategy and team leadership (Required)
  • Proven ability to develop and execute content strategies that drive major gift,campaign success and organizational goals.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a matrixed environment, with a strong understanding of how strategic content can be used across functions and audiences to support shared goals.
  • Expertise in editorial decision making, donor-centric messaging and multi-channel storytelling.
  • Strong leadership, collaboration, and project management skills.
