Job Summary

Own high impact earned media by turning data into compelling, linkable assets and a durable backlink profile, from data sourcing to journalist outreach and asset delivery.

  • Data-driven PR: build end-to-end strategy, asset briefs, and placements that journalists will cite.
  • Data sourcing and storytelling: pull public/government datasets, surveys, and first-party signals to fuel angles.
  • Asset creation to scale: write briefs for data studies and ship with dev/design to create shareable assets, then measure backlink impact.

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Off-page and digital PR strategy, end to end, from the first idea through placement and reporting.
  • Sourcing the data behind a story. That means public and government datasets, original surveys you commission or design, and our own first-party platform signals, shaped into angles journalists, bloggers, and industry publications want to cite.
  • Writing the briefs that turn those angles into linkable assets like data studies, interactive tools, maps, and original research, then driving them through our dev and design teams to ship.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with journalists, editors, and publishers across tech, telecom, consumer finance, and local news.
  • Running outreach campaigns, pitching press, and tracking what lands and what doesn't.
  • Auditing and protecting our backlink profile, including ongoing disavow work.
  • Reporting on what counts: referring-domain growth, placement quality, and the strength of the link profile over time.
  • Moving us off the treadmill of paying monthly for a handful of links, toward owned assets that keep earning on their own.
  • Growing the function as it proves out, with the opportunity to hire and lead a team over time.

Requirements

  • 5+ years in digital PR, data-driven link acquisition, or earned media, with a portfolio of placements you can point to. We want to see coverage in real outlets, not a list of guest-post domains.
  • The judgment and self-direction to run this on your own. You can set the strategy, build the pipeline, and deliver without a playbook handed to you.
  • The ability to source your own data. You know where the stories live, whether that's public and government datasets, survey platforms, or first-party data, and you can pull, combine, and sanity-check it without waiting on someone to hand it to you.
  • A track record of turning data into a story a journalist will run. If you've pitched a data study and earned coverage from it, that's exactly what we're looking for.
  • Real outreach experience and existing media relationships, ideally in tech, telecom, or consumer and local verticals.
  • Comfort with the modern off-page toolset. We use Ahrefs heavily, plus the usual outreach and prospecting tools.
  • The judgment to tell a genuinely valuable link from a spammy one, and to protect a link profile rather than just grow it.
  • Strong writing. You'll be drafting pitches and asset briefs constantly.

Preferred

  • Familiarity with the ISP, broadband, or telecom space and its public data sources like FCC broadband data and Census.
  • Experience designing and running original surveys for earned media.
  • Hands-on data skills (SQL, spreadsheets, analysis) and the ability to translate datasets into clear, media-ready visuals.
  • Experience building or managing a small team, or readiness to grow into that.
  • Experience standing up a digital PR function from scratch instead of inheriting one.
