Job Summary

Own cross-district public messaging and media relations, with hands on control of materials, crisis communications, and digital content across websites and social channels.

  • Media & Communications: Own the spokesperson role, field media inquiries, and coordinate press coverage across districts.
  • Content & Design: Own creation and editing of newsletters, brochures, calendars, and digital assets using Adobe CC and Canva.
  • Public Messaging & Crisis: Own timely public statements, press releases, and crisis comms to protect and inform the community.

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Provides public information and promotional services for BOCES and its member districts to the community at large
  • Serves as the media liaison and spokesperson; responds to media inquiries and coordinates press coverage
  • Writes, edits and designs informational and promotional materials, including newsletters, calendars, catalogs, brochures, flyers, planners, banners, charts and related publications
  • Assists with crisis communication and time sensitive public messaging
  • Prepares and distributes press releases, public statements, media advisories, advertisements, and correspondence for the media and general public
  • Coordinates communication efforts across multiple districts and may be assigned to work at component school district locations
  • Develops and manages content for websites and social media platforms
  • Produces and edits basic photography and video content for communication and promotional materials
  • Utilizes communication and design tools, including Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, website platforms, Microsoft Office, and other design tools as needed
  • Attends professional development and training opportunities as offered or requested

Requirements

  • Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Media, Communications, English, Journalism, the Humanities, or a related field
  • Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university with an Associate’s Degree in Media, Communications, English, Journalism, the Humanities, or a related field and one (1) years of experience in public, print, audio or electronic media communications
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined above in A and B
  • Good Knowledge of publicity principles and methods
  • good organizational ability
