Job Summary

Own global brand storytelling for a multi-category toy portfolio, owning the end-to-end external comms cycle from strategy through execution, with a focus on earned media, launches, and cross-functional implementation across marketing, legal, and agency partners.

  • Own cross-functional campaigns: drive visibility and engagement for tentpole launches across Hot Wheels, Matchbox, and licensed lines.
  • Lead external media relations and events: build relationships with trade, consumer, and entertainment press and orchestrate key activations.
  • Shape messaging and storytelling: oversee press materials, influencer amplification, and proactive coverage around global franchise expansions.

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Own global brand communications across Mattel’s Vehicles, Action Figures, and Building Sets including Hot Wheels, Matchbox, Thomas & Friends, Mattel Brick Shop, MEGA, and licensed lines.
  • Lead cross-functional collaboration with marketing, design, development, legal, agencies, and global teams to deliver best-in-class communications programs at scale.
  • Draft and oversee high-quality press materials for tentpole campaigns, product launches, and seasonal programs.
  • Lead external media relations and manage events and media activations across multiple outlets and trade events.
  • Vet influencer and social amplification strategies to assess risk and extend campaign reach.
  • Monitor, analyze, and report on campaign performance and translate insights into actionable recommendations.
  • Ensure communications efforts align with Mattel’s brands and business priorities to drive growth and visibility.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of relevant experience in public relations/communications, with strong media relations, creative development, or project management.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment, adapt to shifting priorities, and maintain attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a cooperative attitude across internal teams and external partners.
  • Proven track record owning and leading communications campaigns end-to-end with accountable results.
  • Interest in the evolving cultural landscape and creative brand-building.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive measurable outcomes including earned media impact and successful launches.
  • Strong decision-making skills and the ability to work independently within defined scope while contributing to broader strategy.
  • Experience leading cross-functional workstreams and managing internal and external stakeholders and agencies.
  • Strong media relations across traditional and non-traditional channels.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities while driving work forward.
  • Based in Los Angeles or able to work closely with cross-functional partners and media in a fast-paced environment.
