Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute earned media strategies and outreach across nonprofit and government client accounts
  • Build, maintain, and refine targeted media lists (national, regional, and state-level)
  • Draft and edit media pitches, press materials, and rapid response communications
  • Lead reporter outreach and relationship-building, including proactive pitching and follow-ups
  • Edit and refine thought leadership content, including op-eds and commentary for Beltway and policy-focused audiences
  • Support and coordinate events, including planning, logistics, speaker prep, and on-site execution
  • Monitor earned media coverage and develop clear, concise summaries and analysis across state and federal landscapes
  • Identify narrative trends and provide actionable insights to inform communications strategy
  • Support new business development, including research, pitch development, and PowerPoint presentation creation/editing
  • Contribute to client deliverables, including memos, briefings, and communications plans
  • Help train and mentor junior staff on earned media best practices and PR fundamentals
  • Participate in client meetings and internal planning sessions
  • Carry out other duties as assigned by the Vice President.

Requirements

  • 4–6 years of experience in public relations, earned media, or communications roles (agency experience strongly preferred.)
  • Strong experience editing and refining written content, especially op-eds or thought leadership.
  • Experience supporting or leading events and media moments.
  • Experience working with nonprofit, policy, or government clients is a plus.
  • Experience contributing to new business pitches and presentations is preferred.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace, especially PowerPoint.
