Job Summary

Own Repower's brand and editorial quality across all channels, shaping voice and messages while building repeatable systems and leading a small marketing function.

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Brand and editorial rigour
  • Own Repower's brand standard in daily practice. The Director authors our voice, positioning, and key messages; you apply them consistently and own the quality of everything published against them.
  • Manage brand consistency across every channel and surface, maintaining the inventory of how we use our name, our language, and our visual identity.
  • Act as a trusted editorial gate. Drafting happens across the team and with external contributors; the last read before publication is yours. Polished, professional English across everything we put our name to is non-negotiable, and this is a daily, load-bearing part of the role.
  • Hold the line on accuracy and sourcing. A misstated figure or an overreached claim is found quickly and used against us, and the reputational cost is out of all proportion to the error.
  • Build the systems that make quality repeatable: brand guidelines and house style kept current and genuinely used, a template library, a review and approval workflow, and a production process that does not depend on any one person's attention.
  • Contribute to how our identity develops as we grow. Where that calls for design or agency support, you write the brief and run the work.
  • Channels and content
  • Make our digital presence a seamless part of our outreach rather than a parallel activity. Our website and channels are where prospective partners, funders, grantees, and counterparts go in the days after a first conversation. What they find should make them more confident in Repower.
  • Set and own the channel strategy. You decide what we do across our website and social channels, at what cadence, and to what end, then direct the work and commission what we cannot do in-house.

Requirements

  • Several years' marketing or communications experience, including building a function in a small organisation, which matters more to us than running marketing inside a large one. If you have arrived somewhere with no brand guidelines, no agency roster, and no budget, and made it work, we want to hear from you.
  • Native or near-native English, and demonstrably excellent writing and editing.
  • Rigour with facts and sources. You check a figure before it goes out, notice when a claim has outrun its evidence, and are comfortable saying so. Technical subject knowledge can be learned; the instinct to bulletproof our claims is harder to acquire.
  • Evidence of setting direction rather than receiving it: a channel strategy, campaign, or function you designed yourself and can talk us through, including what you would do differently today.
  • Experience managing at least one other person, and the judgement to develop someone rather than redo their work.
  • Experience commissioning and managing agencies or freelancers to a brief, a budget, and a deadline.
  • Strong organisation and follow-through, and comfort working independently across a distributed team.

Preferred

  • Experience developing or tightening a brand system, from either the client or the agency side.
  • Experience marketing into or across Asian markets, and the cultural fluency to write collateral that lands as well in Jakarta, Hanoi, or Beijing as in London.
  • Working knowledge of Mandarin or another Asian language. A bonus, not a requirement; its absence counts for nothing against you.
  • Familiarity with climate, energy, or infrastructure. Useful, but we would take a sharp generalist over a subject expert.

Repower Initiative

We are working on one of the largest carbon reduction opportunities on the planet. Repower is a global non-profit initiative helping to accelerate the transition of hundreds of coal power plants assets globally into cleaner energy sources. The initiative is led by Quantified Carbon, an international consultancy firm providing complex problem solving, modelling, and optimisation to support decarbonisation of energy systems and industries. Our focus is to enable techno-economic and policy research on Coal Repowering at scale, by partnering with leading researchers and technology providers all over the world. Our long-term aim is to help accelerate the transition of around 1300 new coal power plant assets to cleaner energy sources, while saving trillions of dollars and ensuring a just workforce transition. By removing the coal and keeping the power we can eliminate the source of almost one third of global carbon emissions and help avoid up to 200 gigatons of otherwise committed carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
