Internship Overview
This internship provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in energy markets, financial analysis, economic dispatch, forecasting, and power marketing. The selected intern will work alongside experienced analysts and gain exposure to the financial and operational decisions involved in purchasing and selling energy and economically managing generation resources.
- Internships run from May 17, 2027 - August 6, 2027
- Interns will work 40 hours per week
What You’ll Do
As a Financial Analyst Intern, you may assist with:
Analyzing system load, energy market activity, pricing, and financial data
Developing and maintaining spreadsheets, financial models, schedules, and forecasts
Supporting analysis of energy purchasing and selling opportunities
Reviewing market pricing, natural gas pricing, generation resources, and purchased power data
Assisting with economic dispatch analysis to help identify opportunities to reliably serve system needs at the lowest reasonable cost
Researching market trends, transmission options, energy supply, and pricing
Preparing management and operational reports related to purchased power activity, generation resource mix, and capacity factors
Reviewing transaction, settlement, and invoice data for accuracy
Supporting regulatory reporting and data preparation
Assisting with short- and long-term planning and forecasting activities, including fuel cost forecasts
Collaborating with internal teams involved in system operations, finance, generation, and energy markets
Learning how wholesale energy markets and real-time operational decisions impact Santee Cooper’s overall financial performance
What You’ll Learn

Wholesale energy markets and power marketing
Financial and market analysis
Economic dispatch of generation resources
Energy purchasing and sales
Natural gas and purchased power pricing
Transmission and market operations
Regulatory reporting
Financial modeling and forecasting
System reliability and operational planning
What We’re Looking For
Qualified candidates must:
Be pursuing a degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, Mathematics, Data Analytics, Engineering, or a related field
Have completed their first year at a 2-year college/university (transfer program) or 4-year college/university
Be enrolled as a full-time student Fall 2027
Successfully undergo pre-employment physical and drug screen if selected for this position
Compensation Information:
Rising Sophomore: $17.00 per hour
Rising Junior: $18.00 per hour
Rising Senior: $19.00 per hour
