Responsibilities

  • Position Summary We are seeking a talented and detail-oriented Web and Digital Design Content Specialist to join our team. This individual will play a crucial role in curating visual content, ensuring brand consistency, enhancing user experience (UX) for our web presence, managing digital displays, and performing Drupal content management. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with our web team, our creative team, and our content team and be responsible for updating our events database, ensuring our digital communications are engaging, effective, and on-brand. Under general supervision of the Director of Brand and Marketing and in close collaboration with the Lead Digital Communications Specialist, the incumbent independently performs most day-to-day assignments related to web content, digital design, and website governance. The incumbent applies professional judgment in creating and maintaining digital content, ensuring compliance with accessibility and brand standards, analyzing website effectiveness, and recommending improvements based on analytics, SEO, UX, and digital marketing best practices. To be effective in this role, you must be proficient in graphic design, as well as the crafter of excellent end user content. The Web and Digital Design Content Specialist must have a strong eye for effective website design and a strong ear for well-written, SEO-driven content.  The Web and Digital Design Content Specialist has a strong desire to continuously improve on what they’ve crafted. The Web and Digital Design Content Specialist is always looking for new opportunities and ways to repurpose, reuse, and recycle content. They also spend time looking at the traffic on a website, with a goal of improving end user experience. They must also learn to think like a marketing communications professional, which will help them create an impactful website that drives traffic to key targeted pages.
  • Web content development and strategy • Organizes, monitors, and updates information on the University and College websites. This includes supporting users and modifying content as requested by stakeholders as well as taking the initiative to propose suggestions for improvements. • Maintains a content production and review schedule, collaborates with college web producers as necessary, and helps coordinate activities in order to increase organic search rankings. • Develops content that can be deployed to enhance the awareness of institutional programs and services. Develops and implements assigned web content and digital communication initiatives using established strategies. • Coordinates and executes assigned website development projects in support of the University’s marketing and communication initiatives to support the University’s marketing and communication initiatives, in collaboration with the strategic marketing communication and college communication teams. • Manages the data input for University events calendars and ensure event information is accurate, timely, and well-presented on the website and other digital platforms.
  • Web content maintenance • Actively monitors University web pages for broken links, misspellings, policy violations, accessibility, etc., and works with content contributors to make corrections and improvements. • Responds to all requests in a timely fashion, offering solutions that effectively address our users' needs. • Collaborates with internal stakeholders to maintain, and monitor information posted on the web to ensure the website is accurate and web content that aligns with institutional goals and objectives. • Ensures that website content has a look and feel consistent with the University's brand guidelines. • Provides routine content maintenance including creating new web pages, updating text, images and video. Implements processes and guidelines to ensure web content is current and accurate. Reviews website analytics, accessibility findings, user-experience feedback, and search visibility to identify areas for improvement. Applies SEO and AI-search best practices and recommends and implements content and design changes to improve website usability, discoverability, and engagement. • Works with strategic marketing communications team to ensure web content is accurate. • Administers established University web governance standards by coordinating website editing access, reviewing content for compliance, training campus content contributors, and communicating and enforcing applicable content, branding, accessibility, and design requirements • Source, curate, and edit high-quality images that align with the brand's visual identity. • Maintain an organized image library for easy access and use across various digital platforms.
  • Digital Design The incumbent independently plans, designs, and produces digital communication assets from concept through final delivery. Collaborates with Creative Services, Marketing, and campus stakeholders to determine project requirements, develop appropriate design solutions, coordinate revisions, and prepare final assets for publication. Ensures that all digital assets comply with University brand, accessibility, and communication standards. Digital deliverables include, but are not limited to • Website and landing page designs and imagery • Email templates Position Description • Display advertising • Digital signage • Mobile announcements • Infographics • Evergreen content • Email newsletters • Curation of images for various projects Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Minimum Qualifications In addition to Marketing Communications Professional I knowledge and skill requirements, work assignments typically require: • Working skills and knowledge of marketing, communications, public relations, branding, and/or related disciplines. • Working knowledge of protocols and institutional etiquette related to public and media relations. • Working knowledge of copyright and other applicable laws pertaining to publications and the media. • Skilled in developing and implementing marketing and/or communications strategies and campaigns. • Strong project planning and organizational skills to plan, organize, and manage multiple marketing projects. • Strong composition and editing skills to quickly produce clear and concise standard documents for internal and external publication. • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to create and deliver marketing initiatives and campaigns. • Ability to provide lead work direction and training to others. • Proficiency in using communication and marketing software and tools. Experience and Education: Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a related field and two years of relevant experience. Additional experience which demonstrates acquired and successfully applied knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis. An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

  • Preferred Qualifications Experience in editing, proofreading, copy-editing, writing publications, and implementing online marketing strategies is preferred. • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, self-motivated, adaptable, and possessing a positive attitude. • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and work under pressure; ability to prioritize competing demands and complete action items efficiently to meet deadlines. • Ability to communicate/interact professionally and tactfully with people of different levels of education, cultural backgrounds, and life experiences, and to exhibit an adequate level of respect to fellow employees and the University community at large • Demonstrated ability to write copy for multiple mediums. • Strong proofreading and copy-editing skills. • Higher education experience. • Familiar with basic design, photo and video best practices. • Familiar with project management software.
