Job Description

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Product leader to help us build the future of CNBC’s digital products. This is an exciting time to be joining the product and tech team at Versant Media, as we re-imagine our brands for the future. CNBC’s large affluent and influential audience and its deep brand resonance among retail investors makes it perfectly positioned to translate this into a powerful set of content and tools that subscribers would be willing to pay for. Your role as VP of product is to deeply understand our users and innovate for them, thus delivering digital growth for CNBC.   

  The VP of product for CNBC will be responsible for helping craft the product strategy along with the Chief Product and Technology Officer and other key executives and stakeholders. You will lead a team of product managers and designers and work closely with the VP of technology and the VP of project management. 

This role is perfect for someone with experience building for retail investors, fintech or media. You are someone who loves building products customers love and coaching and mentoring a product team to understand customer needs deeply and apply judgement on what to build. Experience of building AI features and how to use AI to improve product practices is highly desired.  

  Responsibilities 

  • Work with the CPTO and executive stakeholders to craft a product strategy for CNBC’s digital products  
  • Use the business and product strategy to come up with feature ideas that are then tested with consumers and validated using existing data and insights 
  • Craft a roadmap of features that is ambitious and communicate that roadmap to stakeholders in a transparent way 
  • Hire, motivate and performance manage a team of product managers and product designers 
  • Coordinate the roadmap with the technology team to ensure we are building features the right way, but also allowing time to build new capabilities, pay down technical debt and bug fix 
  • Ensure that the product and design work is rooted in customer insights 
  • Ensure creative problem solving by the product team so that solutions are provided and alternative approaches considered when trying to solve customer pain-points 
  • Ensure design and UX work is of the highest standards and has the right mix of customer understanding, taste-making and art of the possible 
  • Transform how the product team works with AI built into the workflow to remove grunt work and speed up requirements and spec writing 

This position is eligible for company sponsored benefits, including medical, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), paid leave, and a variety of other discounts and perks. Salary range: $310,000-$340,000. Bonus eligible

Qualifications

Required Qualifications 

  • Minimum of 7-10 years of product management experience with at least 5 years leading a product and design team 
  • Demonstrated ability to drive product management, product planning and roadmaps, including launching new products 
  • Proven understanding of web, mobile apps and OTT products in the retail investing, fintech or consumer (B2C) space and/or in media and publishing 
  • Strong product judgement and product taste with proven ability to hire and coach for that 
  • Deep understanding of the retail investor space and the tools and competitors in the space 
  • Strong understanding of how to build features using AI, including chatbots, LLM prompting for summarization or insights  
  • Knowledge of building personalized experiences including content recommendations and personalized alerts 

Desired Qualifications 

  • Ability to work with senior executives and advise them on how to approach complex product problems through user insights and smart prioritization of the roadmap 
  • Proven ability to manage a multi-disciplinary team and to hire well and create a well-performing team 
  • Strong experience on evangelizing for the customer through the use of research, user insights, user testing etc. 
  • Experience working in subscription business, a fintech or in the retail investing space with experience in media as an added bonus  
  • Strong communication skills and ability to present to senior executives  
  • Strong ability to run a cohesive, collaborative team successfully and build successful relationships across business areas 
  • Bachelor's degree desired; MBA a plus 

Compensation: $310,000-$340,000 USD
