Position Summary & Responsibilities: UI Communications Coordinator

Serve as the primary communications liaison for Unemployment Insurance (UI) programs, including Shared Work, Mass Layoff, Rapid Response, and other employer assistance initiatives. Develop, coordinate, and deliver clear, accurate, and timely communications regarding program requirements, policy updates, operational changes, and agency initiatives to employers, unions, workforce partners, claimants, and other stakeholders.

Develop, edit, and maintain a variety of communication materials, including newsletters, presentations, guidance documents, website content, email notifications, frequently asked questions, correspondence, and other public-facing resources. Ensure all materials are accurate, consistent, easy to understand, and aligned with agency policies, procedures, accessibility requirements, and branding standards.

Collaborate with internal programs and agency divisions, including Rapid Response, Shared Work, Mass Layoff, Legal, and other partners, to ensure coordinated messaging and consistent communication across UI programs. Participate in the planning and execution of communication strategies supporting new initiatives, policy changes, outreach campaigns, and employer engagement efforts.

Serve as a primary point of contact for employers, claimants, and workforce partners by responding to inquiries, providing accurate program information, and facilitating communication between stakeholders and agency staff. Research issues, identify root causes, and coordinate timely resolutions while maintaining positive and professional relationships.

Monitor employer participation and communications throughout Shared Work and Mass Layoff activities, ensuring inquiries are addressed promptly and follow-up actions are completed. Escalate complex or sensitive issues as appropriate while keeping stakeholders informed of progress and outcomes.

Provide cross-functional support to strengthen program knowledge, ensure continuity of employer services, and assist with outreach activities, special projects, and program coverage. Contribute to initiatives that enhance customer service, strengthen stakeholder relationships, and increase awareness and participation in UI programs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in public communications, public relations, customer service, social services, stakeholder engagement, or a related field involving public interaction and problem resolution.
  • Valid Kansas driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Public Administration, Journalism, Marketing, or a closely related field.
  • Four (4) years of professional experience in communications, stakeholder engagement, public affairs, or a closely related role.
  • Experience developing communication materials for public programs or government agencies.

Special Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong editing, proofreading, and document development abilities.
  • Ability to communicate complex policies and procedures in a clear, concise, and audience-appropriate manner.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Experience building collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing business needs.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and content management or communication platforms
  • Strong customer service, conflict resolution, and fact-finding skills.
