The Role
The successful SVP, Senior Business Director (SVP/SBD) at BBDO New York is a senior business leader responsible for overseeing multiple client businesses, brands, or portfolios and driving enterprise-level growth, operational excellence, and integrated agency leadership.
The SVP/SBD serves as a trusted business advisor to executive client stakeholders and is accountable for the overall health, performance, and growth of client relationships representing approximately $5–15M in revenue. They bring a deep understanding of the client’s business, category, competitive environment, organizational priorities, and broader marketplace to help shape long-term business and marketing strategies.
The SVP/SBD leads increasingly complex organizational models spanning multiple agencies, disciplines, capabilities, and markets. They connect the right resources across BBDO and Omnicom to solve client business challenges and ensure teams operate as an integrated, high-performing client ecosystem.
The SVP/SBD is responsible for the commercial health of their portfolio, including revenue growth, profitability, staffing strategy, resource allocation, operational performance, and long-term account planning. They identify opportunities to expand client relationships and bring forward capabilities from across the Omnicom network that create meaningful business value.
As a senior agency leader, the SVP/SBD also develops the next generation of business leadership. They mentor senior account leaders, build high-performing teams, and create organizational structures capable of supporting both current client needs and future growth.
In sum, the standard of performance for the SVP/SBD is excellence in business leadership, strategic partnership, integrated agency leadership, commercial performance, talent development, and enterprise growth.
Key Activities
  • Oversee multiple client businesses, brands, or portfolios totaling approximately $5–15M in revenue.
  • Serve as senior business leader and trusted advisor to executive-level client stakeholders.

  • Drive portfolio growth, profitability, staffing strategy, resource allocation, and operational performance.
  • Lead complex Omnicom operating models involving multiple agencies, capabilities, disciplines, markets, and workflows.
  • Ensure integration across creative, media, CRM, commerce, digital, social, production, data, and other relevant disciplines.
  • Shape long-term business strategies and transformational client roadmaps.
  • Lead annual business planning, resource planning, financial forecasting, and growth planning.

Responsibilities
Client & Enterprise Leadership
  • Serve as the senior agency leader across assigned client businesses and portfolios.
  • Build trusted advisor relationships with executive-level client stakeholders.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of the client’s business model, organizational priorities, competitive environment, customer, category, and long-term growth objectives.
  • Connect client business priorities to marketing, communications, customer experience, and organizational opportunities.
  • Shape long-term client business strategies and transformational roadmaps in partnership with agency and Omnicom leadership.
  • Anticipate emerging client needs, marketplace changes, organizational challenges, and potential risks.
  • Serve as the senior escalation point for complex business, relationship, operational, and organizational issues.
  • Navigate complex client organizations and stakeholder groups with confidence and sound judgment.
  • Establish relationships across multiple levels, functions, business units, and markets within client organizations.
  • Ensure BBDO and its Omnicom partners consistently deliver meaningful strategic and commercial value to the client.
Strategic & Integrated Marketing Leadership
  • Provide senior strategic leadership across the client portfolio and ensure agency recommendations connect directly to broader business objectives.
  • Partner with Strategy, Creative, Media, Data, CRM, Commerce, Digital, Social, Production, and other disciplines to create integrated solutions.
  • Ensure strategic thinking translates into differentiated, creatively ambitious, and commercially effective work.
  • Evaluate major strategic recommendations, creative platforms, channel strategies, customer experiences, and integrated marketing programs through a business and client lens.
  • Maintain strong fluency across modern media and data ecosystems, measurement frameworks, customer journeys, and emerging marketing capabilities.
  • Use business performance, campaign measurement, marketplace intelligence, consumer insights, and competitive activity to inform future recommendations.
  • Challenge agency and client teams to think beyond individual assignments toward broader business opportunities.
  • Steward excellence in strategic thinking, creativity, innovation, and commercial impact across the portfolio.
Integrated Omnicom Leadership
  • Lead complex operating models involving multiple Omnicom agencies, capabilities, markets, and disciplines.
  • Establish clear governance, accountability, workflows, and decision-making structures across integrated teams.
  • Ensure participating agencies and disciplines operate against shared client objectives and business priorities.
  • Connect capabilities across creative, media, CRM, commerce, digital, social, production, data, technology, and other relevant disciplines.
  • Build productive relationships with senior leaders across Omnicom agencies and capabilities.
  • Resolve cross-agency challenges and remove organizational barriers that impact client performance.
  • Identify opportunities to bring additional Omnicom expertise and capabilities into existing client relationships.
  • Represent the broader value of Omnicom while maintaining clear accountability for BBDO’s role and responsibilities.
Commercial & Operational Leadership
  • Own the financial and operational health of assigned businesses and portfolios representing approximately $5–15M in revenue.
  • Lead annual business planning, revenue forecasting, staffing strategy, resource allocation, and growth planning.
  • Maintain visibility into account revenue, scope, profitability, staffing, utilization, and operational performance.
  • Partner with Finance, Operations, Project Management, and agency leadership to develop sustainable commercial models.
  • Ensure scopes of work accurately reflect client needs, agency responsibilities, and required resources.
  • Anticipate changes in scope and lead senior client conversations regarding investment, staffing, fees, and resources.
  • Evaluate organizational structures and workflows to improve efficiency and performance.
  • Establish clear expectations for financial and operational accountability across account leadership teams.
  • Balance client needs, quality of work, talent requirements, and agency financial performance.
  • Identify risks to revenue, profitability, client retention, or operational performance and establish plans to address them.
Growth & Business Development
  • Develop and own growth strategies across assigned client businesses and portfolios.
  • Identify enterprise-level opportunities to expand existing relationships across brands, business units, markets, disciplines, and capabilities.
  • Translate client business challenges into opportunities for BBDO and the broader Omnicom network.
  • Develop relationships with senior client stakeholders beyond immediate marketing contacts to broaden the agency’s influence.
  • Partner with agency and Omnicom leadership to identify whitespace opportunities and develop strategies for pursuing them.
  • Build annual and long-term account growth plans with clear revenue opportunities and priorities.
  • Help convert strong client relationships and agency performance into sustainable organic growth.
  • Provide senior leadership on new business opportunities, including prospect strategy, pitch development, team structure, and executive presentations.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 12+ years of relevant advertising, marketing, or integrated communications experience, with significant leadership experience within an agency environment.
  • Demonstrated experience leading multiple businesses, brands, or complex client portfolios.
  • Proven experience managing significant client revenue and accountability for growth, profitability, staffing, and operational performance.
  • Demonstrated success building trusted relationships with executive-level client stakeholders.
  • Experience leading complex integrated agency models involving multiple disciplines, agencies, capabilities, or markets.
  • Deep understanding of integrated marketing across creative, media, CRM, commerce, digital, social, production, data, and emerging capabilities.
  • Strong fluency across media and data ecosystems, measurement frameworks, and modern marketing platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and drive organic and enterprise-level growth opportunities.
  • Strong financial and commercial acumen with experience managing scopes, staffing models, revenue forecasts, and profitability.
  • Experience leading, mentoring, and developing senior account and business leaders.
  • Strong understanding of AI platforms, automation tools, knowledge systems, and emerging technologies and their application within modern marketing organizations.

The Office Requirements
BBDO has adopted a hybrid working environment. Employees are required to be in the office Tuesday through Thursday and work from home Monday and Friday.

Omnicom’s policy requires employees to work in the office for a minimum of three days a week, unless additional in-office days are directed by their agency or manager. Our objective is to increase this requirement over time, and many of our agencies as well as Omnicom’s corporate group already require five days of in-office attendance.
