Job Description
We believe in the promise of science and technical solutions, and we push ourselves every day to deliver on that promise for the good of people, communities, and businesses in the US and around the world. If you are looking for the opportunity to make a real difference, RTI is the place for you.
This position sits at the intersection of strategy, technology, and market intelligence, helping transform how RTI gathers, analyzes, and applies external insight to shape institutional strategy.
Key Responsibilities:
Competitive Intelligence & Market Insights across Federal & Commercial Sectors
- Continuously track the activities, positioning, wins, and strategic moves of RTI’s top competitors, maintaining current profiles for each and translating findings into clear implications for RTI’s growth strategy.
- Develop and deliver regular market-sensing briefings (monthly at minimum, more frequently when market conditions warrant) synthesizing the most important and actionable market and competitive developments for RTI’s leadership and cross-functional teams.
- Design, build, and maintain self-serve intelligence dashboards that enable RTI teams to independently access current competitor, market, and funding data — reducing dependence on ad hoc requests and enabling faster organizational decision-making.
- Apply strategic frameworks and systems thinking to understand evolving market dynamic and our organization’s positioning
- Distinguish signal from noise in AI-generated outputs, ensuring only prioritized, evidence-based insights are surfaced to stakeholders.
AI-Enabled Intelligence Systems
- Design and deploy AI agents and automated monitoring pipelines that continuously ingest and analyze data from diverse sources including federal databases (e.g., GovWin, USASpending, SAM.gov), market intelligence platforms, scientific publications, and competitor announcements.
- Demonstrate mastery of prompt engineering and Claude Code to build and optimize AI-powered research workflows, ensuring consistent, high-quality intelligence outputs.
- Train business unit stakeholders and team members on AI-enabled tools and workflows to broaden organizational intelligence capacity.
- Evaluate emerging AI technologies and identify opportunities to enhance RTI’s intelligence and strategic decision-support capabilities.
Market Sensing, Cross-Functional Collaboration & Influence
- Lead RTI’s market-sensing function, collaborating with business units, business development teams, and subject-matter experts to identify, prioritize, and communicate the market and competitive intelligence most relevant to their work and to RTI’s growth in federal and commercial markets.
- Serve as a strategic thought partner to the Office of Corporate Strategy and executive leadership; translate AI-generated outputs into clear, human-centered strategic narratives that inform investment decisions.
- Proactively clarify the scope and intended use of intelligence tasks — from the outset and at key interim milestones — to ensure outputs remain relevant and actionable for the teams that will act on them.
- Design and maintain RTI’s strategic intelligence infrastructure, including data sources, analysis workflows, and insight products.
- Develop dashboards, reporting frameworks, and intelligence briefs that support leadership decision-making.
- Continuously improve the rigor, efficiency, and impact of RTI’s intelligence processes.
- Establish best practices for responsible use of AI within strategic analysis workflows.
- Bachelor’s degree with 10+ years of relevant experience in strategy, market/competitive intelligence, consulting, or policy analysis.
- Demonstrated experience using AI tools and large language models for research and analysis, including mastery-level prompt engineering and demonstrated use of Claude Code.
- Experience with market intelligence platforms and federal funding data sources (e.g., GovWin, USASpending, SAM.gov); strong data visualization skills (Power BI or equivalent).
- Strong cross-functional collaboration and communication skills; ability to engage executive, technical, and operational audiences effectively and to clarify requirements proactively.
- Experience designing or working with AI agents or automated research workflows.
- Experience building or managing strategic intelligence capabilities within complex organizations.
- Familiarity with federal research markets, science policy, or technology strategy.
- Intellectual curiosity and disciplined critical thinking; systems-level reasoning and root-cause analysis skills; comfort operating in ambiguous, evolving strategic contexts.
