Job Description
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute high-impact earned media strategies that support company priorities, executive positioning, and brand reputation.
- Leverage existing media relationships and build new ones to secure meaningful coverage and interviews with major national business, news, technology, broadcast, trade, and regional outlets.
- Proactively pitch company news, thought leadership, executive perspectives, and commentary on relevant industry developments.
- Identify breaking and developing news opportunities where ThreatLocker expertise can contribute meaningfully to the conversation and move quickly to develop messaging and media outreach.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with reporters, editors, producers, bookers, and other influential media contacts across print, digital, television, radio, and podcasts.
- Develop and support national broadcast opportunities, including television and radio interviews, and prepare executives and subject-matter experts for those engagements.
- Serve as a strategic communications advisor to executives and internal subject-matter experts, providing guidance on messaging, media strategy, positioning, and reputational considerations.
- Coach and prepare executives and subject-matter experts for interviews, including message development, anticipated questions, and interview strategy.
- Collaborate with executives, product leaders, threat researchers, legal, and marketing teams to identify newsworthy storylines and translate technical subject matter into compelling media narratives.
- Manage and provide strategic direction to a portfolio of domestic and international public relations agencies, ensuring alignment with company priorities, messaging, and performance expectations.
Requirements
- Minimum of 8–10 years of experience in media relations, public relations, strategic communications, journalism, or a related field. Former journalists or news producers should also have meaningful professional experience in public relations or media relations.
- Demonstrated success securing meaningful earned coverage with major national business, broadcast, technology, or news outlets.
- Exceptional news judgment and the ability to quickly recognize when company expertise can meaningfully contribute to a developing story.
- Strong existing relationships with relevant national media, combined with a demonstrated ability to build new relationships with reporters, editors, producers, and other influential media contacts.
- Proven ability to develop and execute media strategies rather than solely support or implement existing communications plans.
- Experience advising and preparing senior executives for media engagements.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex or technical subject matter into clear and compelling narratives.
- Ability to operate independently, prioritize competing opportunities, and make sound decisions in a fast-moving news environment.
- Strong intellectual curiosity and a demonstrated ability to develop expertise in complex subject areas.
- Calm, confident presence in high-pressure situations.
Preferred
- Experience in cybersecurity, technology, SaaS, or B2B enterprise environments.
- Experience securing and supporting national television and broadcast interviews.
- Background in both corporate communications and fast-paced media or agency environments.
- Experience managing external public relations agencies, including setting strategy, evaluating performance, and holding partners accountable.
- Experience supporting communications programs across multiple geographic markets or internationally.
- Existing relationships with national business, technology, cybersecurity, or broadcast media.
