Job Description

  • Set the marketing strategy across TinySeed, MicroConf, and SaaS Institute — decide what to prioritize, what to sequence, and what to deprioritize
  • Translate broad business goals into specific initiatives, KPIs, and timelines
  • Identify what’s working and what isn’t, and adjust as needed
  • Use email, landing pages, and other direct-response tactics to sell our digital products: the startup accelerator, premium coaching community, in-person and virtual events, paid mastermind matching, a video course, and a subscription membership community
  • Lead the creation of high-impact content (blogs, newsletters, case studies, and social posts) including writing significant amounts of copy yourself
  • Design and execute campaigns to promote our services and events
  • Oversee email marketing, social media, SEO/SEM, and (potentially) paid advertising
  • Elevate the firm’s brand positioning as a leader in venture capital, founder coaching, and entrepreneurship
  • Ensure consistency in branding, messaging, and tone across all communication channels
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, partners, and the media
  • Monitor and report on campaign performance against KPIs we’ve defined for each initiative
  • Use data to optimize, kill what isn’t working, and double down on what is
  • Stay current on marketing trends and tools, and have a point of view on which are worth adopting
  • Audit our current marketing across TinySeed, MicroConf, and SaaS Institute. Understand the products, the audiences, the funnels, and what’s been tried.
  • Bring us a prioritized 12-month marketing plan with clear KPIs, sequencing, and resource needs. Defend your prioritization: we’ll push back, and we want someone who can hold a position with reasoning.
  • Begin executing on the highest-priority initiatives, with clear metrics for whether they’re working. Not everything will work; we want someone who can run experiments, measure them, and iterate.
  • 5+ years in marketing roles where you owned both strategy and execution
  • Comfort with ambiguity
  • Based in the U.S., Canada, Latin America, or Western Europe and willing to have five hours of overlap with U.S. Pacific Time
  • Fluency with AI as a working partner
  • Comfort with no-code and online tools — GSuite, Zapier, Airtable, Make, Notion, web-based CRMs
  • A strong knowledge of bootstrapped startups; with SaaS (bonus).

TinySeed

We are the next generation of startup accelerator. TinySeed was started by Rob Walling and Einar Vollset, two serial entrepreneurs who saw a gap in the ability for non-unicorn startups to raise early-stage funding. So we decided to fix that.We announced in late 2018, and the response was beyond anything we imagined.Hundreds and hundreds of tweets, re-tweets, likes, Hacker News upvotes, email responses... it was immediately obvious that there is pent up demand for this kind of alternative early-stage startup funding. That’s the moment we knew we were onto something.TinySeed is an accelerator, but it’s remote, runs for a full year, focuses on SaaS, and “non-unicorns” (companies that don’t aspire to grow at all costs to reach a $1B valuation). To venture capitalists, a company doing $10m in annual revenue is a miss. To us, it’s a great business.
