Job Description
Oswego Studios—a Buffalo Groupe company and 35-year corporate video leader based in Lakewood, Colorado—seeks a Senior Cinematographer to capture compelling visuals, execute cinematic storytelling in the field, and help elevate the visual standard of our productions across a wide range of clients and industries.
The Role
You will serve as a senior production lead responsible for capturing high-quality visuals that support the story, brand, and objectives of each project. Working closely with producers and the creative team, you will translate creative briefs into clear visual plans and execute them with professionalism and technical expertise. This role requires a strong eye for composition and lighting, deep technical knowledge of camera systems, and the ability to lead or support small production crews while maintaining efficiency and high production standards.
What You’ll Do
Visual Storytelling & Production Execution
- Capture cinematic visuals that support the narrative and creative goals of each production.
- Collaborate with producers and creative stakeholders to translate project concepts into visual storytelling.
- Take creative briefs and develop storyboards and shot lists that guide production and ensure visual clarity.
- Operate cinema camera systems and lighting setups to achieve the desired visual style and technical quality.
On-Set Leadership
- Lead or support a small crew, running lighting and sound, often with a production assistant and producer.
- Ensure professional, efficient on-set operations while maintaining strong relationships with clients and interview subjects.
- Adapt quickly to changing production environments and creative direction while maintaining visual standards.
Gear & Production Readiness
- Prepare and manage travel gear packages required for productions.
- Ensure all equipment is properly packed, transported, and returned after shoots.
- Support the maintenance and organization of company-owned cameras, lighting, audio, and grip equipment.
Technical Expertise & Improvement
- Maintain advanced knowledge of cameras, lenses, lighting, stabilization systems, and evolving production technologies.
- Identify opportunities to improve production efficiency, gear workflows, and visual quality across projects.
What You Bring
- Strong visual storytelling instincts and cinematic composition skills.
- Advanced knowledge of professional cinema camera systems, lenses, lighting, and camera support tools.
- Ability to translate creative concepts into practical shot plans and on-set execution.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills when working with producers, clients, and crew.
- High level of organization and adaptability in fast-paced production environments.
- Professional demeanor when representing the company on location.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Film, Cinematography, Media Production, or equivalent professional experience.
- Demonstrated experience capturing professional video productions with cinema camera systems.
- Portfolio or reel demonstrating strong lighting, composition, and visual storytelling.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of standing and moving on production sets.
- Ability to lift and carry equipment in excess of 50-70 pounds.
- Ability to work extended production hours as required.
- Ability to operate camera and lighting equipment.
- Must be able to travel regularly, multiple times per month, and back-to-back (at times) for production shoots.
Compensation & Benefits
- $80,000/year & commensurate with experience
- Benefits include health insurance and 401(k).
