Wilkes University invites applicants for an open Professional Communications teaching position in the Upward Bound Program. Upward Bound is a federally funded TRIO Program that provides support to high school students in career exploration, preparation for college, and ultimately, their higher education pursuits.

The successful candidate is responsible for implementing the academic component of the program by introducing a small group of high school students to a variety of professional communication skills that will help prepare them for college and future careers. Instruction will include topics such as using formal and professional language, understanding common college and workplace terminology, writing professional emails, requesting letters of recommendation, and communicating appropriately in academic and professional settings. The instructor will help students build the confidence and practical communication skills necessary to successfully navigate college and the workplace.

A Bachelor's degree in Communications, Business/Marketing, Education, and/or a related field is preferred. Experience working with high school students or in a college-preparatory program is preferred.

Please note that this is a part-time, temporary position for Fall 2026 with an hourly wage. Program dates run from September 24th through December 10th, with classes held Thursday evenings from 6:30 P.M. – 8:20 P.M. The hired teacher will be responsible for a minimum of one (1), 50-minute class period each Thursday, with the possibility of teaching two (2) sections. The hired teacher will be informed of the schedule ahead of time.
