USA (On-site)
Posted 5 months ago
Job Description
Broadcast Management Group (BMG) is a leading global broadcast production company headquartered in Washington, DC, with operations in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Las Vegas. BMG provides Managed Services to major broadcast networks, corporations, and studios, and is a top-tier producer of large-scale live multi-camera news, sports, entertainment, and corporate productions. Our Live Broadcast Production Division delivers complex REMI, flypack, and studio-based shows for some of the most recognizable media brands.
Position Summary
The Production Manager (PM) is the operational driver behind BMG’s live, multi-camera productions. Partnering with clients, technical leadership, and crew, the PM owns the end-to-end execution of assigned shows, from pre-production planning and crewing through on-air delivery and post-show reconciliation. This is a client- and vendor-facing role that demands white-glove service, sharp logistics judgment, and a deep working knowledge of live broadcast workflows.
The PM will manage scheduling across BMG’s multi-city facility footprint and on-location productions (domestic and international), build and grow the freelance network, and provide hands-on control-room support as needed. Ideal candidates bring extensive live-event experience, established industry relationships, and a calm, solutions-first presence under showtime pressure.
Key Responsibilities
Client & Production Leadership
- Own the client relationship for assigned productions, serving as the single point of accountability from kickoff through wrap.
- Lead pre-production planning including scope definition, technical requirements gathering, run-of-show alignment, and risk review with the client and Engineering leads.
- Deliver white-glove service to senior executive stakeholders at broadcast networks, corporate clients, and studio partners.
- Represent BMG on-site at live events, supporting the EIC, TD, and Director as a producer-adjacent operational lead.
Scheduling & Facility Management
- Build and maintain production schedules in Teamium (BMG’s facility management system) and Smartsheet across studios, control rooms, flypacks, and REMI resources.
- Resolve resource conflicts across concurrent productions in DC, NY, LA, Chicago, and Las Vegas, escalating trade-offs with clear recommendations.
- Coordinate facility turnovers between shows, ensuring engineering readiness, signal paths, and crew call times align with the run-of-show.
Crewing & Freelance Network
- Book and manage staff and freelance crew (TDs, EICs, camera ops, A1/A2, graphics, replay, utilities, etc.) matched precisely to project scope and skill requirements.
- Grow and steward the freelance database, actively recruiting in each BMG market and vetting new contractors for technical fit, reliability, and professionalism.
- Onboard contractors through BMG’s compliance, I-9/W-9, insurance, and rate-card processes.
- Facilitate cross-training of freelance technical personnel to build depth on key positions and improve fill rates during peak demand.
Budget, Travel & Logistics
- Build, track, and reconcile project budgets in Google Sheets and Smartsheet, owning margin performance against the sold SOW.
- Book travel, lodging, and per diem for crew and equipment, optimizing cost without compromising show readiness.
- Produce equipment pull lists in partnership with Engineering and coordinate inbound/outbound logistics for flypacks and kits.
- Issue POs and process invoices for freelancers, vendors, and subcontracted services.
Show Support & Reporting
- Provide hands-on control-room support as needed during live shows, covering producer, AD, or coordinator functions in a pinch.
- Contribute to new business proposals by scoping crews, schedules, and budgets for incoming RFPs.
- Submit a weekly activity report each Friday by 5:00 PM ET summarizing show status, crewing pipeline, client issues, and upcoming priorities.
- Lead post-show debriefs, capturing lessons learned and feeding improvements back into Teamium templates and SOPs.
