Own the end-to-end newsroom workflow by researching, writing, fact-checking, and delivering 600–800 word College feature and news stories for the homepage, news page, and social channels, while ensuring editorial alignment and timely delivery; craft authentic stories around student experiences, faculty scholarship, and department spotlights.

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Writes 600-800 word news and feature stories for the College.
  • Researches and fact checks information, including ensuring accuracy of quotes used in articles.
  • Complies with IU editorial guidelines, and meets Communications and Marketing's deadlines.
  • Exercises ability to identify, pitch, and tell compelling and authentic stories that showcase the College's vibrant intellectual community, and its impact.
  • generate 600-800 word news stories for the College's homepage, news page, and social media channels.
  • Topics covered include: student experiences (in the classroom, with career preparation, service impacts, and awards), faculty scholarship and teaching (courses taught, groundbreaking articles and books published, service awards, achievements and awards), and spotlights of the College's departments, programs, centers and institutes.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled as a student at Indiana University.
  • Currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student in Junior or Senior class standing at Indiana University.
  • Excellent writing and storytelling skills, with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Organizational skills, with the ability to plan effectively and meet deadline.
  • Passion for higher education and research.
  • Experience with news reporting, blogging, or other public-facing writing.
