Job Description
Responsibilities
- Manage and regularly update Literacy Chicago’s WordPress website, including creating and editing pages, updating content, troubleshooting basic issues, and maintaining consistent formatting and branding.
- Develop and manage a monthly social media calendar.
- Create, schedule, and publish social media posts, photos, graphics, reels, and short videos.
- Write and produce Literacy Chicago’s email newsletters and other email communications.
- Create flyers, event materials, digital graphics, signage, and other promotional materials.
- Write and edit website copy, student and volunteer stories, press releases, media pitches, announcements, and other communications.
- Promote Literacy Chicago programs, events, fundraising campaigns, and community partnerships.
- Maintain consistent branding, messaging, voice, and visual standards across all platforms.
- Track website, email, and social media performance and recommend ways to improve engagement and reach.
- Work closely with staff to identify stories, photographs, program updates, and other content.
Requirements
- At least 2 years of professional communications, marketing, public relations, digital media, or related experience.
- Strong working knowledge of WordPress. Candidates must already have experience creating, editing, formatting, and managing website content in WordPress.
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
- Experience managing organizational social media accounts.
- Experience creating email campaigns and newsletters using Mailchimp or similar platforms
- Experience creating professional graphics and promotional materials using Canva.
- Ability to create and edit basic photo and video content for social media and the web.
- Familiarity with website, social media, and email analytics.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Ability to work independently while also functioning as part of a small team.
Preferred
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field.
- Experience working in a nonprofit organization.
- Experience with WordPress page builders such as Elementor.
- Familiarity with SEO and Google Analytics.
- Experience with media relations and press outreach.
