Job Description

THE POSITION

Do you want a close look at how state government works and a chance to take part in it? As an intern with the Office of Legislative Affairs, you will gain real experience with Pennsylvania’s legislative process, help with important events, and work with agencies and legislative offices across the state. This internship is a great fit if you want to build professional skills, learn how ideas become laws, and support the work of the Administration in a meaningful way.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position helps support daily legislative activities and major events that connect the Administration with members of the General Assembly. The role provides hands-on learning through research, coordination, and communication. As a Legislative Affairs Intern, you will perform the following duties:

  • Order Coordination: Manage pen card orders and arrange delivery for members and staff
  • Event Support: Assist with ceremonial bill signings through tracking, memo preparation, and event coordination
  • Committee Monitoring: Track hearings and attend assigned meetings to brief deputies
  • Policy Research: Conduct research on assigned topics to support legislative and policy needs
  • Event Assistance: Help staff and coordinate Governor's Office events with legislative partners

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Part-time internship, 20 hours per week, September 2026 to mid-December 2026
  • Work hours are flexible within the hours of 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday – Friday
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work in-person or hybrid depending on the needs of both the intern and the office. Some level of in-person reporting in Harrisburg is required. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary:The starting salary is non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Internship Requirements:

  • Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate degree program. (Graduates from Spring/Summer of 2026 may also be considered for this program)
  • Good academic standing (2.5 GPA or higher).
  • Pennsylvania residency or enrollment at a Pennsylvania college or university.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must have studied or have graduated with a degree in public administration, public policy, political science, government, or other related degree programs.
  • You must be able to handle multiple projects simultaneously, execute high-volume projects, and demonstrate personal initiative in moving projects along.
  • You must be able to identify and evaluate source material for veracity and accuracy.
  • You must use good judgment with highly sensitive information.
  • You must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • You must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • You must be able to work cooperatively and courteously in a team environment.
