Job Description
Under direction of the principal and the Title I Unit (Division of Early Childhood and Title I Programs and Recovery Funds) in School Support and Improvement, the parent community coordinator (PCC) family engagement navigator develops, plans, and implements Title I parent/guardian engagement requirements, which value all families in the educational process; build capacity among staff to engage parents as the child�s first teacher; and build capacity among parents in understanding state academic standards, local curricula, state and local assessments, and instructional strategies to apply at home. The work of this position focuses primarily on supporting the academic success of students. In collaboration with administrators, teachers, staff, and stakeholders, the family engagement navigator identifies academic supports needed by students and their families during the school year and in the summer. The family engagement navigator collaborates with school teams to plan and conduct parent/guardian engagement activities that explicitly state grade level academic expectations along with expectations regarding grade level assessments. Contributes to school administration and staff members� understanding of diverse cultures and the specific needs of families and students in order to create access points and accommodations for families to support student learning. Strategically engages parents/guardians in order to share academic opportunities for students to participate in grade-level, accelerated, enriched, or specialized academic programs, if applicable. This is a grant-funded position. Physical Demands: None Special Requirements: Availability for evening and occasional weekends for school and school system meetings and events, as well as for telephone calls related to supporting families in need.

Knowledge Skills Abilities
Knowledge of best practices in parent and family engagement to support student learning and the ability to use and model them to parents and staff members. Knowledge of Title I requirements for parent and family engagement. Knowledge of academic programs available to students. Demonstrated ability to plan and implement parent/guardian and family engagement efforts that address the cultural and language barriers experienced by families, particularly those that impact student learning. Efforts are primarily focused on providing supports to ensure the academic achievement and social and emotional learning of all students, with a focus on students from diverse backgrounds. Knowledge of the school system, its policies, regulations, and procedures, and its programs and resources for multilingual learners and economically and ethnically marginalized communities. Knowledge of academic resources for families to support academic needs of students. Ability to work collaboratively with school-based and central office staff, parents/guardians/family, and parent and community organizations. Skill in organizing and working with diverse parent/guardian groups. Excellent communication and human relations skills. Fluency in a second language desirable. Ability to collaborate to problem-solve and serve as an advocate in the best interest of students and families. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
Education Training Experience
Bachelor^s degree required. Coursework in education, family studies, counseling, social work, or communications desirable. Experience with school and community activities and programs, preferably in a leadership role. Bilingual and bicultural work experience desirable. Other combinations of appropriate education, training, and experience equivalent to a Bachelor^s degree that provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.Certificate License:Current valid driver^s license required.
