About the Role
Mile Marker is looking for a mid-level proofreader to join our creative services team. You'll proofread presentations, proposals and creative assets (e.g. email/CRM, direct mail, social ads, and landing pages) for a roster of clients, partnering closely with project managers, copywriters, designers, and account leads to ensure accuracy and brand consistency in all deliverables. This is a contract role with an expected commitment of 15-30 hours per week, with flexibility based on client workload.
What You'll Do
- Proofread creative and marketing materials across online and offline channels—including emails, direct mail, banner ads, and client/internal presentations—for grammar, spelling, punctuation, and consistency
- Verify copy accuracy against approved briefs, style guides, and brand voice guidelines, flagging discrepancies before final delivery
- Check formatting, layout, and legal/disclaimer requirements specific to each asset type (e.g., email subject lines, mailer specs, ad character limits)
- Collaborate with copywriters, designers, and account teams to resolve inconsistencies and incorporate revisions under tight deadlines
- Maintain a final quality-control checkpoint across multiple concurrent projects, ensuring error-free deliverables before client or internal handoff
What We're Looking For
Required
- 4+ years of proofreading experience in marketing or advertising
- Proven ability to proofread for email, direct mail, paid social, digital ads, and/or landing pages
- Expert command of English grammar, spelling, punctuation, syntax, and usage, with the judgment to distinguish standard conventions from intentional brand-specific style choices
- Working knowledge of common editorial style guides, with the ability to apply client-specific style guides when they differ
- Ability to proofread copy in context and identify visual or production errors, including missing copy, awkward line breaks, inconsistent formatting, spacing issues, and discrepancies between copy and design
- Track revisions carefully across rounds and verify that requested changes have been incorporated accurately without introducing new errors
- Experience proofreading regulated or compliance-sensitive marketing materials, including legal copy, disclaimers, offer language, and required disclosures
- Experience juggling multiple clients or brands at once
- Self-directed and deadline-driven; comfortable with a remote, freelance workflow
- Exceptional attention to detail
Preferred
- Agency or in-house creative team experience
- Proficiency in project management software (such as Teamwork or Asana)
- Experience with creative review tools like Figma or Ziflow
Engagement Details
- Contract, freelance — 15–30 hours per week, based on client volume.
- Remote.
- Reports to the Director, Creative Operations & Delivery.
- Compensation: hourly or project rate, commensurate with experience (details discussed during interview).
- Work samples will be requested during the interview process
Mile Marker was created by the merger between PlusMedia and Cage Point. The result is an end to end media agency that speaks to its clients not at the media level, but at the business level. Our belief is that media, in all forms, should be held accountable for the delivery of measurable business outcomes, not just KPI. We view brand and performance media as complementary forces, working together to drive scalable growth. This means we leverage every media channel at our disposal, including ones that may have been forgotten by today’s marketers.
