ORGANIZATION 

KIPP is a nonprofit network of college-preparatory, public charter schools with a 20-year track record of preparing students in educationally underserved communities for success in college and life. KIPP currently serves over 100,000 students in 242 schools across the country, including Indianapolis.  KIPP Indy Public Schools (KIPP Indy) was founded in 2004 with one class of fifth-grade students and has grown to educate more than 1,000 students across three schools. By the 2022-2023 school year, KIPP Indy will educate nearly 1,500 students in the Martindale-Brightwood community on the Northeast side of Indianapolis. At KIPP Indy, we believe that all children will learn and achieve at high levels if given the opportunity. Edna Martin Christian Center has served hundreds of students and families across Martindale Brightwood since its founding in 1941. Its mission is to invest in the lives of all in Martindale Brightwood and surrounding neighborhoods through community-driven opportunities that foster stability, growth, and a vision of hope. Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES

Community Coordination

• Participate in the Martindale-Brightwood Education Zone (MBEZ) partner meetings and the KIPP Indy monthly Community Council meetings
• Support families in building social capital and finding resources to support their overall well-being
• Assist community partners in resolving service delivery, access, and coordination issues
• Develop, monitor, and maintain a schedule of programs and services in the school
• Identify new agencies and/or organizations that have resources to help increase academic success, improve the conditions for learning, and support social-emotional learning
• Manage all volunteers in the school, develop volunteer opportunities, keep records of volunteer work, and regularly recognize their service to the school
• Serve as a liaison to the community and attend external meetings, as needed
• Collaborate with school social workers to refer families to human service agencies and other resource providers
• Collect program and service delivery information from providers and partners  

Family Engagement

• Collaborate with KIPP Indy to launch and execute an effective family engagement strategy, including a family communication and outreach plan
• Proactively engage families and community members to attend MBEZ and KIPP Indy events
• Collaborate with KIPP Indy leadership to design and develop a family resource center
• Coordinate family workshops and meetings
• Collaborate with KIPP Indy regional and school-based leadership to develop a schedule of family programs, events, and services that directly support student success
• Maintain records of family engagement activities and collaborate with principals and teachers on family engagement activities

School Collaboration

• Collaborate with the KIPP Indy Managing Director of Family & Community Engagement and participate in weekly check-ins and team meetings to maximize results
• Cultivate strong relationships with a broad range of stakeholders, including students, families, and staff
• Collaborate to foster a culture that supports the school’s vision and promotes respect and appreciation for all students, staff, and families
• Develop and execute family engagement initiatives, communications, and events
• Collaborate with the operations team on systems related to enrollment, attendance, and student retention, participating in regular team meetings
• Collaborate with the social services team to refer students to additional support services (i.e. health services, counseling services, mentorship programs, etc.), as necessary.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

• A minimum of 2 years of experience in education, community engagement or related fields
• Deep belief in being part of and helping lead a multi-cultural, anti-racist organization
• Team player capable of working both collaboratively and independently
• Highly organized, resourceful, and accountable, with strong attention to follow through and detail
• Proactive and creative problem-solver; ability to identify, analyze, and recommend solutions
• Track record of exceptional results
• Oral and written proficiency in Spanish preferred

COMPENSATION

Starting Salary $50,000

Salary is competitive, commensurate with experience, and includes benefits.
