About the job

Job Title: Engineering Manager, Voice Agents Platform

Salary: $220K – $250K + competitive equity

Location: Redwood City, CA (Tuesday through Thursday in-office) | H1B transfers welcome | Relocation support available

Company Description: PE-backed AI workforce automation startup, part of a $1.25B unicorn, 13x customer growth in 2025, $0.5M to seven-figure ARR in a year

Job Description:

Join a 35-person team that is transforming how an entire industry operates with AI agents that function like experienced property managers. HOAi grew customer count 13x in 2025, went from $0.5M to seven-figure ARR in a single year, and operates as a business unit inside Vantaca, a PE-backed platform that just hit a $1.25B valuation with 6M plus doors on the platform. Backed by Cove Hill Partners and JMI Private Equity with product market fit clearly established and a target of $20M plus ARR in 2026. As Engineering Manager for the Voice Agents Platform you will own the technical vision and execution for HOAi's Voice AI agents, leading a team of 4 to 8 engineers while remaining deeply hands-on with code, design, and architecture every day. This is not a pure people management role. 50% of your time is engineering.

Why this role is remarkable:

  • Own the technical direction of a Voice AI platform at a company that grew 13x in customers and went from $0.5M to seven-figure ARR in a single year, inside a PE-backed parent with a $1.25B valuation, with real scope from day one rather than owning a sub-team of a sub-team
  • Lead a team of 4 to 8 engineers building production-grade conversational AI including voice, chat, and multi-channel experiences, while staying hands-on with architecture and code daily in one of the hottest categories in enterprise software right now
  • Fast process with same-day responses on submissions and 48-hour candidate decisions, startup speed and ownership culture inside a PE-backed business that has the stability and resources to scale the engineering team from 11 to 30 plus engineers this year

What you will do:

  • Lead the architecture and development of the Voice AI agent platform spanning voice, chat, and multi-channel experiences, contributing directly to system design, code reviews, and implementation in LLM orchestration, real-time streaming pipelines, and WebRTC and telephony infrastructure
  • Manage, mentor, and guide a team of 4 to 8 engineers while owning the technical direction for agent reliability including session lifecycle management, real-time orchestration, and automated degradation strategies, using tools like Cursor and Claude Code as a core part of your daily workflow
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product and design teams to translate customer needs into agent capabilities, and work closely with the CEO and senior engineering leadership to shape the roadmap as the company scales aggressively through 2026

The ideal candidate:

  • 5 to 10 years of software engineering experience with 2 or more years leading engineering teams, strong distributed systems fundamentals including queues, workers, caching, and event-driven architectures, and hands-on experience building real-time low-latency systems using WebSockets, streaming, or similar infrastructure
  • Experience with LLM-powered applications in production and ideally some exposure to voice infrastructure including WebRTC, telephony, SIP concepts, or STT and TTS pipelines, plus a CS or engineering degree and active daily use of AI coding assistants as part of your workflow
  • Startup background between Series A and D with a scrappy mindset and ability to prioritize independently, not a pure people manager or manager of managers, not coming from a heavily ML or data engineering background, and not someone who needs highly structured slow-paced corporate environments to do their best work
