Job Description
Responsibilities
- receiving and handling emergency service calls from the public, which includes determining the nature and location of the emergency and ensuring proper radio frequencies for dispatch of emergency units
- maintaining awareness of the location and status of up to or exceeding 50 emergency response units throughout the shift
- operating computer systems and consoles, including telephone, radio, and emergency tracking systems
- entering, updating, and retrieving information from computer systems, including data on wanted persons, stolen property, vehicle registration, and stolen vehicles
- preparing incident reports using the automated reporting system
- answering non-emergency calls
- coordinating emergency and non-emergence responses with other city departments and law enforcement agencies
- handling after-hour service calls for emergency situations for departments including Animal Control, Water Utilities, Traffic and Transportation / Streets and Victim Services
- performing other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent and two years relevant experience
- Computer Aided Dispatch, 911 or similar police-related experience preferred
- If and when requested, must take and pass an assessment on Critical Personnel Selection Software
- Must have, or be able to obtain within specified timeframe, TCOLE telecommunications proficiency certificate and state licensure
- Duties involve access to sensitive Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS), which requires that a thorough background check be conducted
- Candidates will be subject to a polygraph exam and criminal history check
- In accordance with CJIS requirements, must not have any criminal conviction as an adult or juvenile above the grade of a Class B misdemeanor or any Class B misdemeanor within the past 10 years; other convictions may also be considered
