Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Digital Display Advertising: Plan, execute, and optimize digital display campaigns that drive visitation and brand awareness across key feeder markets.
  • Social Media Strategy: Own the bureau's social media presence across multiple platforms, growing engagement and translating the Island's character into compelling digital storytelling.
  • Media Relations and PR: Serve as a primary media contact, cultivating relationships with travel writers, journalists, and outlets to secure coverage, direct hosted visits with community partners and manage the MITB’s public narrative.
  • Content Creation: Develop original photography, video, written, and multimedia content that captures the Island's history, culture, and seasonal experiences for use across all channels.
  • Turn Recognition into Results: Leverage Mackinac Island’s extraordinary national recognition to create campaigns that convert awareness into visitation.
  • Other Duties: MITB is a small staff with a big job. Our small team is highly collaborative, and everyone works together to promote one of the most recognizable destinations in the country; including “all hands-on deck” during annual events that make our Island famous, such as our beloved Lilac Festival and the Fall Fudge Festival. Requirements

  • Proven experience in digital marketing, with 3-5 years of hands-on expertise in display advertising, social media management, and content creation.
  • A track record in media relations or public relations, with 3-5 years experience building relationships with press and securing earned coverage. Strong preference for candidates whohave experience in the travel or tourism industry.
  • Strong storytelling instincts - the ability to translate a place, a brand, or an experience into content that resonates.
  • Director-level leadership experience, with the judgment to set strategy and the hands-on skill to execute it.
  • Comfortable working in a seasonal, destination-driven environment where the pace and focus shift with the calendar.
  • Preferred bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications or another related field.
  • Physical demands requirements: This is an active, highly mobile position in a unique Island environment. Work outdoors for extended periods and in a variety of seasonal weather conditions, including rain, wind, cold temperatures, heat and humidity. The nature of this position requires someone who is physically active, adaptable and comfortable with the realities of Island life and the ability and willingness to regularly ride a bicycle or walk as a primary means of transportation to and from work, meetings, events and other locations throughout the Island.
